exactly what did the vice grip do? You should able to tighten it enough to grip it and turn the ****.

Otherwise, I guess try a pipe wrench?

My stock one came off pretty easily, so I don't know what else to do.

Thanks guys. lol i was hoping someone would comment on that....Basically with the vice grips, i tighten it as much as i could and try turning the grips counter-clockwise. The grips turn but the **** does not. Whatever the **** is made out of (what is underneath the leather) just twists with it. Maybe i am not tightening the grips or being violent enough? ............wheres that pipe wrench

Cut the cover off, then put the vice grips on the metal hard plastic under it.

Who likes my ****? *PIC*

Thanks to the help of Cliff, MyGreenMax94, and 92 Max I finally got my old dirty **** off. I replaced it with a tasteful leather and chrome Momo Tomahawk. I also replaced my crusty shiftboot with a real leather one from Redlinegoods (very nice product.) I am thinking about somehow grinding down the shifter a bit because the Tomahawk is a lil taller then the oem one. What do y'all think?

I like the boot. I need one of those really bad (along with an STS).

The shift **** probably looks better than a crusty stock one, but I like the AE a little better.

i cut my shifter about 3 inches and put an aftermarket ****, it really changes the way the whole interior looks, the stock shifter is too damn tall.
as for the throws, really good.

Just heat the stock shifter in the oven and move the ball up the shaft a bit.

4th gen B&M will work on our car with a slight modification (just drill the holes a little biggger) to the mount the shifter goes on. Check my 92 page for a how to on making a 4th gen (not B&M) shifter work in the 3rd gen.

but yeah moving the stock ball is the way I did it this last time.

yes, you can do it
yes, you probably would need to pay someone to do it for you
can you afford it... maybe if you vcan get a used tranny...... a new one is about $1700 maybe??? plus you need a clutch, slave cylinder, and all that good stuff...... but that is new stuff... you can also go to the junk yard.....

Nah, it doesn't have to cost that much...It will take some time and research to get everything you need. I did my swap for somewhere around $800.

Dude...This swap is a major under taking for these cars[very labor intensive]...The parts list is a mile long and so is the work to get it in there...

This guy may be able to help you on getting the parts you need..
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=464522

I personally suggest you sell your automatic and buy a 5 speed maxima..But if you are insistent on doing this swap, the best thing to do is find a donar car[i.e. manual maxima that has been wrecked or blown engine] then swap the parts over...This method saves countless trips back to the junkyard for parts...

Or you could buy my maxima..

If you really plan on performing a swap, I highly suggest that you have an alternate mode of transportation available.

Hmmm, looks right at home in there to me!
Just because it says MOMO on it doesn't mean it's not rice!
I don't see much of the rest of your interior, but I don't see anything else with chrome or black stitched leather on it. the **** is COMPLETELY out of place. and again it's shiny and chrome. that's pretty much rice in my book.

Now.. something that DOES blend in a bit better?

note the black leather and red stitching... going in a red maxima with black interior and red 4 pt harnesses on the corbeaus.
(and FYI, that's an OEM Nissan shift **** from a J-spec Z32. http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...de=32865-99Z32 )
