got new stereo, need help with dash kit

I just got a new alpine hu and I installed it without an aftermarket dash kit... it doesn't fit very well. I was thinking about trying a Metra kit, but I am not sure what those look like when installed. If anyone has pics or advice, please let me know.

Also, does anyone know what dash kit this is? (not my car)

Thanks!

Looks like what you're looking to do with your hu is flushmount. Unfortunately, there aren't any kits out there to accomplish this since the radio bolts on fine to the stock mounting points without the need for it. If you wanted the radio to sit flush with the surface, you'd have to modify the brackets or fabricate a new bracket the moves the mounting points of the radio.

As for the pic, whoever did that install replaced the open pocket with the one that has a door, which normally sits just below.

Metra makes dash kits. My head unit doesn't have a dash kit. I believe it is held in with the factory metal brackets. I didn't install it, the owner before me did, but I have taken it apart many times.

Some head units come with that little plastic trim piece that fits around unit.

the way the cd player is screwed in the metal piece, im sure you can drill new holes and move the cd player back a little bit and it should sit flush. do you know how to get to it? like what to pop off and remove?

^^ that is not my car in the first post. I had the factory stereo (not bose) with the cd player and tape deck so I do not have another pocket to use under the new deck.

I don't need it to fit flush... it just doesn't fit really well right now... the small trim piece that came with the stereo has to be removed for it to fit at all. Is that normal?

Metra makes a dash kit that is supposed to fill in the empty space and make everything fit better. I have never seen one in person, but I found many references to them in old posts.

I don't believe Metra has a dash installation kit. But, they do sell the pocket that fills the lower DIN when you install the CD Player.

I did the install on my own car and it fits perfectly without the dash kit. There is some degree of play with the radio mounting brackets which allow you to move the radio back and forward just a little bit. You just need to shift the radio forward, towards the back of the car just a small amount so that you can affix the garnish/trim on the radio. I have this pocket here http://www.installer-data.com/item/d...php?it=98-7499 to go under the radio.

That kit looks cheap as hell. Put it right in the factory brackets. That way the CD player won't jiggle around when you press the buttons.

yeah, I thought it looked cheap, too. I was hoping I could just reuse the factory trim and brackets. I think the whole problem is that I received the wrong pocket. It looks like it is for suburu/mitsubishi/vw. it doesnt fit right and everything else looks off. Also, I need to move the HU so the trim piece will fit. it looks like crap without it.

I might take you up on that. I am going to see if I can get a free replacement for the pocket that I received in error. If that doesn't work, I'll let you know.

Maxima Antenna

Does anyone know how to replace entire antenna assembly? Should I buy a OEM unit or an aftermarket unit?

Thanks

Since I can't PM you, I will post here. Sorry to interrupt the original thread topic. Okay, it might not be necessary to replace the whole antenna assembly. If you turn on your radio and hear a noise like an electric motor in your trunk, most likely all you will need to do is replace the antenna mast. You can find these on eBay for around $19.00 shipped. Check to see if you hear a noise. If you don't you can get a antenna assembly on eBay or even the For Sale forums on here.
