Accident: Lady ran stop sign *PICS*

Happened literally a block from my house. Was going through an intersection and I see a white Cadillac CTS going through the stop sign coming right at me. Hit me my passenger side pretty bad. Luckily I had no passengers and no one was hurt. She was honest and told the cop it was her fault and she was looking for a cigarette lighter. I think theres a good chance its totalled. Its a 97 with 75,000 miles so I figure its worth about $6-7k max.

Sorry to hear. Yes, I agree, it's most likely a total. You might want to buy the car back for a few hundred and part the car.

Yeah though other than the wheels I don't know think theres much I could get a lot for and I'm definitely getting the wheels back. Anyone have experience with this? Should I get my 15s put my back on before I bring the car to the body shop so I don't have the hassle or can the body shop just give them to me?

Damn, that sucks. All the vultures need to lay off this guy, he just lost his car. I'd have to agree as well that is likely a total loss. Really low milage for the car. And smokers say they shouldn't have to pay more for car insurance... I hope the officer wrote down her confession in the report, I guarantee she changes her story after talking to her insurance company. Don't settle for the first offer your insurance gives you, they WILL try to lowball you. You should go see a doctor as well, if you don't hurt now just wait until tomorrow. Your insurance should cover it.

Yes, Some body shops won't let you touch the car after it is in their possession, I had to fight to get my CD player one time, even though the insurance company said go ahead and swap it out. Then again, if you know what body shop your going to take it to, you may want to call them and ask before hand. Once the insurance adjuster comes out, you may get a little more for your car with 'premiem wheels' versus stock.

A couple weeks ago a lady blew the stop sign and hit me too. The cops reuled that it was not my fault. The car was not totaled. I have 141,000 miles and it's a 99 SE-L. The damage came out to be $4,400. It's being fixed now and i'll be getting it back this Friday. We both had GEICO. They paid for a rental for the time being. Not too bad of an experience, just a hastle dealing with the situation. Good to hear you were okay.

Geico is awesome. A guy rear ended me and he had Geico, they ended up paying for everything including a Chevy Cobalt rental which I proceeded to handbrake the crap out of.

Both of these stories about Geico mean nothing - both parties had Geico insurance, so they were paying for it either way. It's when your insurance company has to fight for you when you learn what they'r ereally like.

Fortunately I've never had that experience.

She has Statefarm and I have Allstate but I already talked to state farm and filed a report and they said it it was her fault so it should be going 100% through her insurance.

State Farm is pretty good, and there's no way they could make it out to be your fault, so you should be safe as far as a claim goes. The lady that hit me 6 months ago in another car I had, carried State Farm, I can't say anything bad about them. Didn't have to fight for a thing. Always, always be prepared though, they're still an insurance company,,,they can all be bad at times.

Sorry to hear about your accident. This could be a good time and reason for you to move on the the next vehicle, as you said you just graduated and may have a good job lined up. If you do get the job, this could be the time to go for that car that you may have had your eye on for a while.

Unless the insurance would cut you a check bigger than what you could get for parting it out then dont do it.

glad to hear you're ok.it's definately a total, so i would leave the car at your house and have statefarm look at it there. less hassle that way, no need to worry about whether you car get your wheels off, etc. leave it the way it is for now, they more than likely will settle with you keeping the car and at that point you can decide what you want to do with it. if you do keep it and decide to sell whole let me know, im local. if you need help with the ins process pm me and i'll do what i can.

if you have receipts for rims, tires, other mods you can settle for more money, i did and got a extra 1000$ because i had new struts, tires and batt.

Just call your insurance company and fax them the receipts, i got 8600$ for a standard *** 98 gxe with 85,000 miles, with no mods, not even a cd player!

edit did have 1 mod, a trenz grille also got some money for that.

my totaled max, a durango ran a red light on me, only did minimal damage to him....

other advice: give the junkyard or whoever a single remoteless key so you can keep and use ur remotes for your other car......If you take parts of your car DONT tell the insurance company they will deduct that part from your cars value. Just steal your own parts back..

Although I agree with most of the points made in this thread, take a minute and review the state laws regarding property damage reimbursement requirements for your particular state. You can generally check with the NY Department of Insurance for those.

I manage a law firm in Ohio specializing in automobile cases, and can say from many years of experience that insurance companies only have one groups' interest in mind when dealing with claims, their company shareholders. Some companies are better than others, but they are still insurance companies. Make sure you thoroughly investigate the fair market value of your car. My experience has been that insurance carriers don't add much value to your car for new or aftermarket items. The market value is determined based on a car in good working order for its particular year. I hope State Farm is better there than here, we call them "Snake Farm."

Well its totalled. They're giving me $5974 because I have a few dents which I think is a little low. Anyone have experience with arguing with them to get more? Also, this means my wheels are for sale. I'll post a thread in the For Sale section soon

Your negotiation with the insurance company is only as good as valid information you find to substantiate your claim. I would suggest doing a search for similar cars with like options and mileage and see how their offer stacks up. Everyone knows that cars depreciate over time, but insurance companies are also in the business to make money and not give it away. Many insurance companies use a service called CCC, which is an online database of vehicle values, and it is notoriously low on value. Their first offer is usually the low end of a range they have authority to offer. Getting them to offer the high side of that range takes time and patience. If you can find similar cars with much higher value, use that in your discussions with the adjuster. Remember, it's all about negotiation and the insurance company is holding the checkbook. One piece of advice is, you attract more bees with honey than you do with vinegar. Don't **** them off, it just makes it personal at that point. Good luck.

Make sure they don't conveniently forget about rental car reimbursement, sales tax, title fees, etc. when they make the offer. Those are all compensable items in Ohio at least. You may consider buying the car back at salvage rate and parting it out like some others have suggested.

Door post is affected badly, looks like it'll cost a lot more to repair than what the car is worth....it might be totalled. Sorry.

This is proof that most women just can't drive....safely. Women driving big sedans or suv's scare me especially. I've seen a woman in a Taurus back up right into a wall at our gym parking structure and hit it really hard, rear end is smashed up really good. She's talking on the cell when this happened. She could have backed up into a car or worse yet a pedestrian.

Several months ago, a woman in a mustang backed up into my car despite the fact that I was honking at her to let her know that I'm behind her. She was on the cell. My car was not damaged but I gave her an earful! Another woman driver.

I really believe that some people aren't meant to drive... don't mean to sound sexist, but women multitask too much which makes them bad drivers... all my accidents were with women... from not knowing the laws of traffic to plain out drunken driving and running through a red light...

sorry to hear, it pains me to see accidents that are that bad...
