Hawk Pads

I recently replaced all my brake pads and rotors with Hawk HPS and new frozen rotors. I am having a problem with the rear breaks. I’m getting a constant squealing every time I brake plus every now and then I get a grinding noise from the rear only.

Now I think it could be two things, one the shims that were on the stock pads didn’t fit on the rear hawk pads, so I didn’t use them, and two I’m not sure if the tab on the break is lined up correctly with the slots on the rear piston.

The other thing is that the grinding noise is only coming from the right side, and I did the same thing on both sides…no shims with the blue break quite stuff.

Here are my two questions:
1. Are there break shims that fit on the Hawk HPS pads, and where did you get them?

2. Could it be that I need to turn the rear piston a quarter turn to fix this?

got answer only on #2 turn piston all the way in!!! Check if the dust boot is busted. Piston might be rusted thus dragging.
P.S. did you bed in pads? look for write up in 4th gen how-to's

The Hawk pads have the shims "built-in" to them. But my factory shims fit on my hawk pads just fine...just had to bend the tabs a little bit.

Nomad, the rear piston simply needs to be reoriented a touch in order to eliminate the squealing?

I found the problem but..

I did break in the brakes, I found out that one side on the rear brake was not in the groove. The one brake pad is now at an angle from braking at an angle to the rotor. I inspected the rotor, and it looks like there isn't any damage, but you can see what was happening. So I fixed it, I hope as I use it, the pad will flatten out again. Brakes are sold in sets, and I would hate to buy 4 more pads just because I messed up one. What do you think... if I go easy on my brakes you think it will even itself out?

I too have hawk in the rear with frozen rotors and this is the third set that has squealed. I got a set of Metal Matrix this week and will be replacing the Hawks with the MM. I had the Metal Matrix befre and they never squealed.

By the way, I only get the squeal on the right rear. I have tried to correct it several times and the squeal keeps coming back. It may take several months but it always comes back.

By the way, I will be taking these back to the Auto parts store for another set, for free and they will be available for sale. You can low ball me if you wish.
