So my mom has this awful screeching sound like something scraping against metal coming from the driver's side front wheel and only when the car is put in reverse and actually starts to move. It sounds like it gets worse everytime she tries to back up.

Any ideas?

?

My guess would be brakes. Maybe the wear indicators are showing their ugly face and digging into the rotor? If it doesn't happen when going forward, I am puzzled!

Pull that wheel and make a careful visual inspection of the brake. There might be a pebble which has become caught in the caliper or between the rotor and the stamped steel splash guard. Make sure that splash guard has not become bent so that it touches the rotor.
