=T mann did something weird during WOT

well i was cruising through the highway and everyone was going 50. i just pass along going 60. anyway i was stuck behind a guy going 40 and was trying to pass him. as usual i put the pedal to the ground to downshift and proceed. my rpms went from 2k to 6k and redline in the matter of 2 seconds. never done that before. i hope i didnt fck anything up.

automatic? ... it can happen depending on the pressure applied and if u slowed down from 60 to 30 something and then wanted to get up to 40 but then u slmmed and happneed to be the same time it was shifting down.. auto are sorta unpredictable with these things...

manual... well u shifted down .. dont blame the car... heh

I dont wanna seem like an idiot but...you are talking about the clutch pedal right, meaning your talking about a Manual tranny...if so then the redline means you downshifted too soon, if you slowed your car down when that happened and got it into normal RPM's I wouldn't expect anything to have been damaged, but try not to do it again.

Urk... I hope it is not your TC, but the vibration points in that direction.

Is flooring it really necessary for you to downshift? For me it seems like I have control over 1 or 2 gears of downshifting/upshifting depending on how much throttle I use. If I'm on the highway and want to pass, I typically don't floor it...I'll give it maybe a tiny bit extra throttle to get it to downshift to 3rd.

def. agree but in his case to notice such a rise in RPM i suggested that he floored it...

yea i floored it. i dont have much response by pressing on the throttle slightly, it's either floor it or not. my engine lags a lot through all gears, and i've yet to diagnose why (maf, o2, coils, etc. etc.)

Up until yesterday, I didn't even have an O/D button for about 5 months (aftermarket shift setup), so I learned other ways around it.

yea o/d buttons downshift the car when you are in 4th. I thought that the o/d was sorta like an electronic 5th gear for the autos.
