This trend really has taken off lately. Nearly every Honda I see in Kansas City is running 17"-18" in the rear and the stock 14-15s in the front with some rather low profile tires. I can't tell if they're running drag radials or just radials. Either way it looks pretty silly, especially when they've got a body kit and wing.

If I see your Max like this and you're not going to the track.....I'll smack ya

I think there's actually a reason to do this. 205/40-16 is a ***** to launch..no sidewall flex, either you spin or you bog... I would run 205/50-15 if I had some 15" rims... I am certain that with some drag friendly sized tires the crx would be the high 14's.

Yup....

been seeing that since last summer....its a good excuse to only have to buy 2 rims though... damn ricers!!! matter of fact almost everday I see this bone stock(except for excessive "Racing" stickers) Hyundai Accent with that "setup", I guess he's at the track everyday or something burning everyone in that 18 second monster!

soon they'll be trying to be like the pros with the fat drag slicks up front and the pizza cutters on the rear...

But isn't that setup backwards? On rwd cars, the bigguns are in the back smaller wheels in the front, with FWD, the bigguns are suposed to be in the front, and they have little skinny one in the back.

Smaller, lighter wheels with more sidewall in front make for better dragging.

Here's what I yhink would be a propper 1/4 mile configuration :

Front:
Volk TE-37 Drag 13x8 Wheels (5-6LB per wheel)
http://www.upgrademotoring.com/wheels/te37_drag.htm
w/wide Drag racing tires (245/65-13)

Rear:
Volk TE-37 16x7 Wheels (11lb per wheel)
w/ stock tire size drag racing tires

It's not necessary rice! In the winter, people use stock rims and snow tires up front, and bigger wheels with 4 season tires at back.

first off those rims are 4 bolt they wont fit, second chk the offset. Now for the rears the offsey is not for the max, and also why would you pay $450+tires just for rims that would use maybe once a week or so.

I think I can bike faster then that... but lower trap speed of course!

good idead

No matter how stupid it looks this is a good idea and it's something i'm planing on doing, esp. since i will have NOS and UDP. I will obviously only do it at the track. I have 16's now and i will put two 225/40/15 on my stock 15's and bring them with me to the track and put them on. This does several very good things for draggin, it transfer a little more weight to the front on the car, it reduces the amount of weight transfer to the back of the car, it gives you a slightly better final drive ratio (better acceleration and less top speed), and they are STICKY drag radials. This should yeild at least .1 seconds off your 1/4 prolly more. Yes Dave this does look dumb and i would never drive on the street with it but it actually is a good idea. and as you know every tenth counts.

If you use this setup going to the track then it's no big deal, but using the setup all year around looks silly, IMO.

BTW, a 225/40R15 will be horrible for drag racing. Low profile tires really suck for drag racing because the sidewalls are way too short and hard. They only make for worse launches. You should invest in a set of BFG 205/50R15s drag radials. You don't need a 225 width tire.
Also the smaller diameter tire, be it the 225/40 or 205/50, will INCREASE your trap speed. You're improving your gearing and this typically makes FWD cars faster. I don't know why, but it does. When RWD cars add gears, their ets go down, but the mph holds constant. FWD tend to benefit in both ways.

I plan on running 205/50 BFGs on my stock 15s. I figured I might as well run drag radials since every other guy at my track does.

well, personally I wouldn't get that setup and it's also more of a hypothetical example for a FWD car (not necessarily a max) that is meant mostly for track use or spends a lot of time at the track but I believe you can get a 5-4 bolt adapter (or a similar wheel that is a 5 bolt) and as far as offset is concerned, you are only going to be driving in a straight line and making very smooth turns when you are at the track so I don't think you have to worry much about offset.

It's stupid regardless.

Just think about it.... (on a honda)

a 13x8 rims on the front with some sticky tires (245r40-13?) will help launch the car like a bat out of hell, but will also provide lower gearing, making for better acceleration.

but, to put huge 17" rims on the rear...or even 16" rims would counteract some of purpose. why not run 13s all around. less rotating mass = faster times.

What a lot of these kids are doing is running stock rims with crappy stock tires...

rice rice baby.....

if i could afford it....i will do 17front and 18 rear....how could this be rice???? corvette come stock like that....hell i'll even put some low profile on the 17 and stick some big fat tire on the 18 so my max will have that leaning look to it from the side....all this will happen if i could afford it.....but i doubt it...so it'll be 17 all around for me....RICE ON!!!!!
