What Oil Filter Brand Do You Guys Use?

Before anyone flames me, let me explain why I am asking this newby question. For a while now, I have been using the Mobil 1 M1-110 oil filter. Then after a while, my local Autozone and Pep Boys decided to carry the M1-110 Extended Life filter. So I started using those. I had no clearance issues until after installing JClaw's traction bars. The bar has put a nice dimple on the filter. After much brain-storming, trial and errors, and even a thought of getting an oil filter relocation kit, VQuick suggested the use of the regular size oil filter because it is shorter. This means that I need to look for the regular Mobile 1 oil filter, not the extended life that I currently use. The problem is, I can't find it anywhere! Every local Autozone and Pep Boys that I go to, they only carry the Extended Life oil filter. The Fluids & Lubricants forum suggest Nippon, Denson, and Nissan OEM. Neither one of the suggested brands can be found at the local auto parts store and I don't feel like paying over $20 for the Nissan OEM.

So now back to the question, what oil filter brand do you guys use? BTW, I use Mobil 1 SuperSyn motor oil.

Maybe I'm wrong, I thought nissan oem is like $8, that's what I use, the regular oem.

purolator premium plus is good. Purolator PureOne is one of the best. I don't think autozone carries purolator though.

I use Amsoil 7500 because its 100% syn as opposed to Mobil 1 which is 80%. The K&N oil filter is like 9 bucks or so at AutoZone. Not too bad Id say.

Funny, I've never seen the K&N oil filter around here. I had no idea they even made oil filters.

i think i read on another maxima site that the OEM filter is the best, mostly because it has a valve that keeps oil in the pan, which helps during cold starts

Advanced auto carries the PureOne....any evidence that the PureOne is one of the best? (I've been using it...but had been thinking it's an inferior filter since no one ever mentions it, however, evidence would be a nice surprise)

Can you do me a favor and measure the length of that filter? If its approx 2.5", then I won't have any clearance issues with the traction bar. I do need one by the weekend as my car is past due on the oil change. And with this type of heat that we're getting in LA, I don't wanna chance ruining an engine because of oil break-down.

Hey Dennis...the filter is in the garage and I'll have to wait till tomorrow to look at it...I don't wanna wake up my parents

but umm...I took a ruler and measured 2.5 inches...this is nowhere near the size of the 9E000...I've been working with 9E000 filters all my life...and I know by hand, it does not feel 2.5 inches...just by looking at the ruler and remembering how the filter feels in my hands....I know for sure it's not 2.5 inches...I'd say at least 3 inches long...

I'll have empirical data by tomorrow!

I was using Mobil M1 filter, didn't care for the price. I ended up switching back to OEM FTW.

You list Southern Cal as your "home" maybe you should try another dealer for cheaper filters. There must be like 200 dealers in SOCAL. You might have to drive what maybe 5 miles further.

Print out the price on courtesy parts or pinnacle or garrands. Any local dealer will price match it. They are definately less than 6 dollars each. Infact, IIRC garrands has them for 4-dollar something.

ahh a subject i know what im talking about

My favorites: Mobil One, PureONE, and i hear good things about WIX, but have never used them.

OEM is good enough, no M1 but not bad,

Fram is bad bad bad, as is bosch ever since production went to mexico...

AC delco prob makes one for us, should be decent quality.

Any others you want reviews of?

Thanks for the measurement. The Nissan filter is about 2/8" longer than the extended life M1-110 which measures at 3". My quest continues.

The Nissan OEM filters are about $4 at my local dealership. The more you buy the cheaper they get also.

haha, at first i was like...2/8th? wtf is that? then i was like, oh yeah! you're suppose to divide it by lowest terms...1/4th :

yeah it measure at 3.25 inches...it may look like 3.5 in the picture...but it really is 3.25...how the heck did jclaw run with the traction bars? hmm, he must have probably used the 15208-65F00 filter...its much shorter than the 9E000

Didn't mean to confuse you.... I took drafting so I tend get a bit technical with measurements.

Will the 15208-65F00 filter fit the Maxima?
