Steering wheel discoloration issues. White Speckles!

Anyone having problems with their black leather wheel slowly losing its color to reveal a white speckled texture from use? The top of my wheel is starting to look pretty shabby after only 3 years. Anyone have creative ideas on how to get it back to black?

I fixed mine....... I yanked the steering wheel off and repleaced it with a Sparco Lap 5 with a HKB steering wheel boss kit- today It made the steering feel much better, and on top of that the steering response improved by far. It doesn't feel like a EVO yet, but its almost there in terms of sharp steering resonse. I have no driver's airbag- no biggy as I am not a fan of airbags anyways, and I have to rig up my cruise controll back up but I rarely use it so it might just stay off. Pictures to come tomorrow

I thought those white specks were from the paint that were on my hands after work. I sat there forever trying to get them off.

I thought it was illegal to remove airbags.

Removing airbags is definitely a major ! What happens if you're in a wreck and you hurt yourself? What about insurance...you won't be covered if they know you modified (removed) the airbags. Modifying or removing airbags are illegal also. I would definitely think twice in re-installing your airbag.

Its NOT illegal to remove the airbag, remember few years ago - big fuss about pickup trucks not having a cut off switch for passenger ? If you sit too close to the steering wheel you can remove it.... regardless there is NOTHING illegal in removing airbags. Selling a car with no airbags and not informing the person buying the car of their lack of, is illegal. I know my rules. For years people drove with no airbags, in europe they still sell cars w/o em.... I wear my seat belts, at ALL times..... I dont need advice on safety. I know more people injured by airbags than saved.

My life,
My car,
My $$$.

yeah, the only reason it would be illegal to remove an airbag is if it was illegal to drive without an airbag in your car.. and there's plenty of cars without them. I wouldn't do it, but whatever... im a ***** for pain.. i want a pillow there when i crash

wow I haven't seen you around in a while, I remember when you had tthat other sig with your girl in it or something. But that was a minute ago, i'm starting to see the same thing on my steering wheel as well, short of taking it out there has to be another means of fixing it.

No SRS lights, I made my own airbag simulator. I still have my passenger airbag working properly. On top of that it feels sooo nice compared to the cheap leather on my 03 Maxima steering wheel i had on in the past- which was prefforated. Next on the agenda is Sparco seats and roll cage

Roll cage? You below 10's in the 1/4? Thats additional weight that probably ain't necessary. Nice looking wheel though!

Well I do road race my car, so cage would make it alot more safe than any airbag. I also use a Sparco bolt in harness while I am out doing laps-not used on the street. Since Maxima has a chassis made out of PlayDoo, it will help with body flexing. My chassis has actually bent a lil bit from various reasons- my front doors dont close as nice as new- they are actually saggn a bit and its NOT the hinges.
