Sunroof vs no sunroof

I have a sunroof in my car and it has always bothered me that I don't have much headroom even with the seat back and such, and after my brother got his Camry I really noticed just how little headroom I actually had. I then did a little research on this and found that it is mostly because of the sunroof.

My question is, do you guys think it is better to have no sunroof with more headroom or less headroom with a sunroof?

I'll take the sunroof personally.

I have a sunroof and I definitely wouldn't trade it for anything. The 5th gens don't really have this problem though.. I'm 6'3 and have plenty of room.

Regardless, it's a good way to ventilate heat out of the car, and it's nice to be able to open it up and just look at the sky... Having said this, I don't know what 'no headroom' feels like, so maybe it really is a pain? how tall are you guys, how much room do you have?

I wish my car had a sunroof but I've got loads of headroom (granted I don't sit bolt upright, but I'm not laying down into the backseat either); one of my friends from school has a '96 Camry XLE w/a sunroof and I've noticed there is a distinct loss of headroom, but even at 6'5" I still fit just fine.

Hold on, you live in Del Mar and you're questioning whether or not you should have a sunroof? I had my Miata when I lived in San Diego and the only time the top was up was... I don't know actually. Here in VA, I could do without one, but out there it's requisite! Have you ever closed the panel to the sunroof and found out how eerily different the cabin is without that light? I love my sunroof.

It's kind of difficult to find a Maxima without a moonroof, so it kind of makes it a pointless question. If you searched around trying to find one without one, it would take you a while.

I don't have one. I'm alright withouth one. Plus I don't want to have to worry about when it rains and the next day I open the roof and water comes down on me. (happened to a friend of mine)

his profile show him with a 2k max, which is after nissan starting going cheap and one of the cost cutting measures was to stop tinting the sunroof.

No sunroof. More headroom, stiffer car (though probably not by much), less to break and leak. I rarely use mine anyway

It's kind of rare to NOT have a moonroof in a 3rd gen.

Your friend probably just had a clogged drain. Same thing happened to Antonthegrey (he posted that sometime before he was permanently banned)

Ditto. If the sunroof was optional on my AE I would have skipped it and saved the money for something else.

I like my sunroof, but those riding in the backseat generally don't. They can't see out of it (unless they try really hard) and they have less headroom than I do up front.

My wife likes the sunroof but I could take it or leave it. When I'm driving, it's not like it's gonna do anything anyway, right? And I live in Mississippi. Once you open the sunroof, all your A/C goes byebye...

More chassis stiffness and less weight plus more headroom to boot over sunroof... really though, its not as bad as T-tops... I wish I could find a slick top Z.

I don't need T-tops or a sunroof. If I want some sun, I have an MR2 Spyder for that.

Where is the option for "I have a sunroof that I wouldn't trade for the world, and I have plenty of room"? Mark me down.

I'd prefer no sunroof. Less weight. Lower cost new. The 3rd gen has decent headroom with a sunroof, but does have noticebly more without. I also hated slamming the car door and seeing the roof/sunroof shake on my 3rd gen.

I never use my sunroof...shade broke but functional...noisy at around 75mph from wind...I pick no sunroof....head room is not a problem though..I am 6'3 and with the seat propery adjusted it is quite comfortable..

For me, I do a lot of driving on Highway 101 (aka: the coastal highway) so I roll all my windows down and open up the sunroof, so I love it here. Use it all the time and absolutely love it. I have noticed the increase noise on the freeway due to the sunroof though, and seemingly less rigid roof it has over a non-sunroof version that everyone has mentioned.

My shade broke as well (the tracks on it were bent out beyond repair and lost their strength), which I soon fixed by pulling it out, and soon will be putting 2 1/2% tint on the sunroof instead. Headroom hasn't been as big of a problem for me with the shade gone, giving me an extra inch.

The sunroof assembly is bolted on with steel brackets that form a big rectangle, so wouldn't they provide more structural integrity than sheet metal w/o brackets? Also I've noticed that at high speeds it seems to help out with downforce a little bit.

Love the sunroof. I'm 6'3" and don't have a headroom issue. Opening all four windows and the sunroof provides a feel of freedom like I imagine a convertible feels like. On cloudy days, opening the shade brightens up the interior a lot. All my cars have sunroofs.

I love the sunroof... just not the 12" semi-circle crack that developed over last winter... best be replacing the glass before next winter I imagine.
