I have noticed, on some 3rd Generation Maximas, that the read deflector piece.

BLACK

RED

Whats the deal with this. I would like to get a black piece, but I dont know how to obtain one, or even install it for that matter.

there are 4 different reflectors for the 3rd gen max
89-91 GXE
89-91 SE
92-94 GXE
92-94 SE

in 89-91(the upper picture), the top portion is larger and has maxima written in it
in 92-94(lower picture), the portions are more equal sized adn it says MAXIMA in the lower portion

89-91: SE (shown in upper pic) is black with black trim; GXE is red with chrome trim
92-94: SE is black trim around the reflectors and is smoked; GXE has chrome trim (shown in bottom pic)

 

I have a 94 Maxima SE, and it has the Red Reflector, not the smoked one? Is this correct?

92-94 SE's have the red one with black trim.

 

mine is smoke w/ black trim. Or maybe it's because it's soooo old!!!

 

and mine has the red piece but no chrome - instead it is black. Is this normal? To tell you the truth, I have never paid any attention to it.

I was wondering, can my red one be replaced with a smoke one? I really think it looks phatter than the red one. If anyone knows where I can pick one up, please let me know.

yeah, they are all interchangeable
to take them off, I think you take off the inside trunk liner and from there you can see the necessary bolts

try a junkyard or people parting out cars on this forum

if not, you could buy one from a Nissan dealer $$
