New Hood Struts: Where to buy, can i replace just one?

Being on budget is it feasible to fix just 1 hoodstrut? Also, is there a way to test if one strut is better than the other (rate at which they expand open or something like that?) and therefore replace just one?

Any tips are great,

And they have a lifetime warranty. I just replaced mine and it turned out they were the same ones. Got a warranty on them = no cost.

Advanced Auto, Autozone, ABC all carry replacement hood struts. For $20 for a pair and the 15 minutes it takes to replace them this isn't really a job you should skimp out on.

yesterday when i was putting my lugnuts back, the hood slammed on my fingers because of old hood struts....that HURT...i got them back by beating them out with a hammer and then crushing them (true story)...
Just gonna use some stick to hold the hood up, seems a lot safer.

heh its woulda been easy if they put the stud on the strut for me but they didn't so i had to pry the little lockring out 4x, force it over the little balljoint, then get it to go in(took around 30mins for the set.. the last lockring was hard as hell)

but installation of the strut is easy other than that the hood is hella heavy

Is it hard to change the hood struts? Mine are close to being toast as well... I was changing light bulbs today and praying it wouldn't slam...

Instead of a Broomstick you can use a pair of Vicegrips on one strut. Clamp on the shiney metal shaft close enough to the top outer case.

I am using ViceGrips also. Saw someone in the ghetto doing it. Works pretty well. Did have a 2x4 holding it up, but the friend i borrowed it from took it back from me>JeRK...So spent 3 dollars at AutoZone for the ViceGrips. THey are also nice to have around too....Good to hear that Advance has them for $20..and a lifetime warrenty...sweet to know if i ever decide to change them out.
