Cut speed sensor wire....No CEL???

I followed the instructions in the stickies to get rid of the speed limiter in my GXE. I added some wires and was planning to add a switch to turn off and on. I tested it briefly and got to 120 no problem so I know it works. I have no CEL though. Do I need to add a switch or should I just trim the wiring that I ran and leave the circuit open with wire hanging out so I can reconnect it easily for later in case I sell my car to someone who doesn't dig having the ability to go faster than 110-115 every once in a while?

I've driven over 60 miles and no CEL. I'm not some punk kid trying to kill myself. I just want the car to be able to do what it is supposed to do without a fuel cutoff at 110-115. Why is my CEL not coming on. MZMTG or whoever respond.....

It was designed with the limiter in place for a reason.
It was doing "what it's supposed to do."
By eliminating the limiter you are allowing the car to run at higher speeds then the car was designed to run at. It was limited because of the tires speed rating on your GXE model. Make sure you now use tires rated for the speed your allowing your car to run at.

i was thinking of doing that but after further research i just figured i do a couple basic mods ie Y-pipe(next 2wks or so), 00vi(next 2mnths or so) and the after i ge tdone with that i was going to get the Greddy E-manage ultimate. To my understanding it also takes out speed limiters plus i really wanted to get something that when i sell the car i can always sell it off to other user not just maxima owner ( ie reprog ECU plus or wait for down time)

I have falken ziex on the car and 16" SE alloys. The tires are rated for much faster than I would ever go.......

You shouldn't cut the wire. Reinstall it using a toggle switch. That way when you have the need for speed you can just throw a switch and simulate the cut. No CEL, No speed limiter, everyone is happy .... /thread

No.....not /thread. I'm trying to figure out why I have no CEL after driving 50-60 miles with this not connected. I went to radio shack and bought a toggle switch but if I'm not going to get a CEL, why install it??? I could just leave the wires cut and put them back together with a butt connector when I sell the car. No CEL.....why???

i am 100% 100% sure that it takes a little while for it to show up. I have seen threads that people claim they cut the wire with no CEL. A week later they reported CEL. Good luck.

I just hope your not driving around in trafic going that fast... it all seems fine and fun until someone who didn't expect a car to be passing them at 120 makes a lane change into you.

You're right. I got a CEL today. It took a while. Time to insall my cheapo toggle switch and reset the ecu.
I had a good opportunity to test it again just to make absolutely sure I got the right wire. I got it up to 130 this time on a straightaway with no traffic. I chickened out to try to push it further. It's good to know I can blast down the highway if I ever need to. I won't be doing it anymore without a good reason though.

So, it does work. B/c I was reading old threads and members was saying it doesn't work. I'm going to have to look into this after I put more mods in.

The only code that I got was 2 slow lights and 3 fast ones, which means something about a throttle position sensor. The car definitely doesn't have a speed limiter now but I the stickies seem to indicate that this is not the code that I should have been expecting. I know the sticky thread deals mostly with 95-96 models so is there any way that this is the appropriate CEL that I should be getting on my 98 GXE?

Update:
The only CEL I got after doing this mod was a throttle position sensor code (0203 I believe). I installed a cheapo toggle switch and have left it in the off position and the CEL has not come back. Easy mod even though I'll hardly ever use it, if even at all.
The only thing is that I wasn't able to get the screw that attaches the wiring harness to the ECU to screw back in. I tried and tried for like a half hour to get that dang screw back in there but it won't grab and start tightening. All well....the harness fits on the ECU pretty tight and won't fall out or anything.
