gc coilovers or hard drop springs
Hey I am looking to lower my car with either gc coilovers or intrax sport lowering springs. I used lowering springs on my old car and they were fine, I started looking into coilovers and I am leaning towards gc's but alot of people are telling me to stay away from them but never say why. please can some-1 tell me whats wrong with them other then noise which looks like it's a easy fix
The big problems with Ground Control springs (they're not true coilovers) all stem from the fact that they are very stiff and you have to use them with off-the-shelf aftermarket dampers, the majority of which are not designed to handle spring rates that high. That leads to lackluster handling (compared to what you should be seeing with such stiff springs) and a very stiff, sometimes bouncy ride. The only dampers that can really handle GCs are Konis, which are expensive. Illuminas and AGXs are okay, but they still ride poorly and sometimes blow out prematurely. GR-2s, HPs, and the stock ones are woefully inadequate.
in a choice between junk and junk, I'm not sure what to pick
Either go with real coilovers or some quality springs. Slamming the car does nothing but make it handle like crap, increase bump steer, wear struts prematurely...etc.

It depends on what your tolerances are. I have GC's and they ride fine to me. The roads are smooth in cali though too so that makes a major difference. They are very firm and will bounce if you use OEM struts. The biggest thing you have to do with these is RTV the strut bearing to the top of the strut housing. Otherwise you'll get a grinding and poping noise which will eventually lead to you having no strut bearings and you won't be able to get your car aligned. These aren't true coilovers they are just very stiff lowering springs that let you control how low you can go. The lower you set these the less suspension travel you will have and the more harsh things will get for you.
