Thermostat housing bolts

what size are the thermostat housing bolts? one of mine snapped clean off...

I would get the replacement from the dealer since this bolt is hard tempered.

Apparently not that hard tempered, as it broke off in my engine block... lol. I will see if that is possible (doubt it).

Oh, and by the way, they are grade-7 bolts... so less strength than the average stuff you can pick up at your friendly neighborhood hardware store.

did you torque it too much? make sure its not in-lb instead of ft-lb.

I broke the caliper bolt while replacing my pads some days back and though I got the same (small bore) bolt from HomeDepot, it would not go in more than 3 turns (the cost was $0.2 vs the dealership for the bolt that was $6).

I must tell you all car manufactures know how to rip us off, can you believe I paid $6 for a Japanese bolt (which would have cost $0.2 to mass manufacture these bolts).

So in short not all bolts are the same.
