Any electricians by trade?

I've got an air compressor, its 230v 21amp and currently has a 2 pole/gnd plug.

I've got an electric range, its 240v 40amp and currently has a 3 pole/gnd plug.

My house doesn't have an open circuit to hardwire the compressor, and I need a temporary solution in order to paint my car. I've been told I can purchase a new range plug, wire it to the compressor, and disregard the neutral pole. Looking for a second opinion, is this going to work? I've also got a 30 amp dryer, 2pole/gnd, but its further away- if the range plug isn't a good idea- is the dryer plug a better solution?

yeah you can do that...just make sure you disregard the neutral when wiring the new plug...just use the 2 hots and ground..you should really be using a 240v 30A 2 pole circuit breaker for the 21A compressor but for temp use the 40 will be fine...so it looks like you need to buy a 240v 40A male plug

yeah, you'll be fine for temp use plugging into either one.

thanks for the second and third opinions.

my electrician friend said it would be kosher, but he just got licensed/never seen him work/etc. which persuaded me to ask others.
