Just curious, why do you want the narrowest tire? I'm sure you can fit 205/55s on there if you really want to but I wouldn't go narrower than that for traction's sake.

Narrow is good for snow..... I'd go with 205/55/17 if the snow is really bad. Or just use 215/50/17.

I have been using 235/45/17's in the NE and they have been great...

I think the biggest thing is using a really good snow tire. I have used Nokian Hakkawhatevers and they are great snow tires.

size on 16s?

sorry to jack your post but i still can't start my own threats. i have a 97 se w/ the stock 16s that i am getting ready to buy a set of winters for. i know how everyone talks about a narrower tire being better and i believe the 215/55-16s are stock size... but would a 205/60-16 fit just as well on the rim? whats the safest size to run and are other people out there running narrower winter tires on the 16s? thanks everyone
