Is 3.0 pre-cat interchangeable with 3.5?
Is 3.0 pre-cat interchangeable with 3.5?
My car (3.0 cali-spec) has a P0430 code...see many .orgers replaced 02 sensors and that helped cure the problem. Called Dave B the parts guy and he said it's a precat, the part that comes right after the headers. It may be hard to find a good used part so wondering if these parts are interchangeable
Last I heard there were a couple of 5th Gens with parts available here:

chopstix: i need the part of exhaust thats connects y-pipe and headers, not the y-pipe itself. my SES light is on and come emission testing my car is going to fail.
puppetmaster: do you know if cali-spec and fed-spec VQ30 precats are any different? Can this part be custom made by exhaust shop vs buying off of a used car?
just talked to one exhaust shop, got quoted $100 for labor to replace the part. Dave B says the part is $400+...grr

I'm glad that we dont have to pass emission here in qc, so I can mod the hell out of my max and not worrying about the emission. I know other province in canada have too just like the US.
Brandywine new parts dept gave me a quote of 370 for a precat, I was told it is brand new but generic brand.
Just got off the phone with local Midas store, asked if they can fabricate one or get one made by generic brand. The guy turned out to be knowledgable about Maximas and suggested I replace the 02 sensors on the side opposing to #1 cylinder, and if that doesn't work then replace the precat. Spend 350 now then spend 500 later...there's gotta be a less $$ solution.

Look in the FS/Trade section and see if you can get one from someone who got headers put on or a fed-spec swap.

Nope, fedspec has the triangluar 3 bolt pattern like on the rear manifold to y pipe, on cali spec its got like 8 little bolts on that pre cat to manifold part.
ok, i have found your thread.. and see that precat is between exhaust manifold and y-pipe.. interesting.. as i was looking to purchase main cat or y pipe..
well, in my case, mine should be pretty messed up as i was stalling at idle from that...we'll see.. just bought the brand new actron obd2 scantool; will check codes again when it arrives on tuesday or so..
