z32 brake upgrade q's

hey guys i have a 98 i30 and i want to upgrade the brakes on my car i have looked back at a few threads and still have a few q's:

can i use the n/a 26mm z32 calipers and rotors together? i have read this will work as long as the rotor is machined slightly?

same questions follows for the larger 30mm z32 twin turbo calipers and rotors?

thanks

Greg

Why ask if you read it??

If you go 300zx rotors they have to be milled. Get cobra rotors and they fit without mods besides hubcentric rings but you have to run 30mm calipers. Also have to have 17" wheels minimum. 30-35 offset best and spoke design plays a role to.

Offset has nothing do to with brake clearence, just spoke design.

26mm rotors can be used as long as you have 26mm rotors, which is fine if you want to use stock size rotors, but if you want to do the cobra rotor upgrade you have to have 30mm calipers. I have some 26mm calipers for sale if your looking to just upgrade your calipers and not go with bigger rotors. PM me if interested.

Using the Z32 setup either 30mm or 26mm you need a minimum of 16inch wheels, offset isnt the main issue the spoke design is. You have to make sure the spoke design on your wheel will clear the calipers. Rotors will need to be milled down.
If you use the Cobra rotors you will need relocation brackets for the calipers, plus the rings and a 17inch wheel with proper spoke design.

so if i use the z32 26mm caliper i can still use my stock size rotor (98 i30) or do i need the stock non turbo rotors and with these rotors would there still be a need to mill the rotor? i want to try to stay away from the cobra rotor for now im just looking a better alternative to better braking than stock at a cheaper price than the cobra way

no you must change your rotors either way. you can't use the stock maxima rotors with the z32 caliper either one 26mm or 30mm. 30 mm is the way to go that way if you wanted to go to the cobra rotors later you could with out problems. if you go with the 26mm you can't ever used the cobra rotors. and they are about the same price as rebuilds within $10

and the milling of the rotor is that just for the 30mm? or does that apply for the 26mm as well? when milling the rotor do you mean the thickness of the rotor?

thanks for answering all of my questions!

You mill it 3mm in diameter along the outer edge of the rotor.

thanks again for the info guys now i understand why most of you just get the 30mm and the bracket kit i was just wanting to look at the easiest & least costly way but i will most likely get the 30mm with the cobra rotors

thanks

What wheels do you plan on using?
Better make sure they will clear, or else the brake upgrade will become more $$$ then you had planned out for it to be when you have to get different wheels.

or get spacers. I believe you have to mill either rotor the 26mm or the 30mm as the dia. is the same. and the 3-4mm has to come off of the diam. if you will check the for 4th gen class. I have a new set of 30mm CALIPERS AND PADS for sale for $200+shipping

you can use the 30mm with the 300zxtt rotors you don't have to use the cobra rotor but with the 30mm calipers you can. but if you use the 300zx rotor you have to have them milled down 3-4mm. that the only problem. but they would be usable with 16" wheels where as the cobras are not 17" or >

If you use the 300zx rotors dont you have to grind on the LCA a lil bit. I remember reading some rotor you used you had to do this and I am sure its the 300zx rotor.

Depending on the wheels spacers may not be enough.

That is correct. The rotors are much thicker then the A32's. They will rub when turning if you dont grind down the LCA's
