'93 SE/AT Brakes, Clacking & Manifold
1) I just got done with my suspension replacement. I did all 4 struts (KYB) and the front control arms. When I reverse and stop slowly, I can hear a rubbing noise coming from the rear. Like metal on metal, like stress. Is that breakin? or something not tightened right? Other than that, works great, HUGE difference.
2) I'm going to clean up the inside of my intake manifold. Whats the best way to clean it? Carb cleaner? Or is there something better?
3) I got clacking. Wasnt there when I bought the car. It sounds like what everyone here on the forums have been complaining about for a while. At Idle or low Speeds it just clacks and clacks. Sounds like the valves, or the cam. It seems to be only on the rear bank. Is this a lack of oil circulation? Oil is too thin? Pump is dead? Oil lines are clogged? Damage to the valves or cam?
Timing belt is going bad or the timing is just off? My engine has no problems, bUt I did notice that the hydrocarbons for 15 mph were 83 out of 85. My Fiance's GXE scored a 23 of 85.
Do I have a big old exhaust leak? How much are the exhaust studs? Are they hardpoints? or removeable?
4) Brakes. I need better cooling. Mine are getting a little glazed over. Whatever the previous owner put in was crap to begin with. Looks like AutoZone type rotors, and duralast pads. Ack!
I want to put in either Brembo rotors with Hawk or Axxis ceramic pads (standard)
or Centric Stop Tech x-drilled & slotted rotors with Axxis XBG pads.
5) I have a caliper problem in the rear
, so I want to replace those. Should I upgrade the brakes as a kit? Or just get refurbished Nissan calipers?
I appreciate the answers! Thanks guys.
Now owning two Nissan Maximas. Both white. Both Auto.
1993 SE - 168k mi. Xlnt Interior/Exterior.
1994 GXE - 98k mi. Xlnt Interior/Exterior. >>> Bought w/Warranty! ha! <<<
Both happily running great & will be for a long time.
SE is due for a tint, body kit, sound system w/false floor, E36 projectors and a nice car alarm.
Is anyone selling body kids?
