If I only knew

If you knew then what you know now what would you do differently when you got your car, meaning option, color, se or sl. etc
I personally would have gotten the se instead of the sl because i now know that the se has a higher top speed, and i would have gotten the nav

If I could go back I would buy perhaps buy automatic (lots of city driving ), and a navagation system. Then again, this is likely the last Maxima I will ever own. The screwed it up after 04 IMO. I had two Altimas prior to the max and never had any mechanical issues..this 05 4-seat SE has been terrible with warranty work.

Three times an actuator in the top vent has needed replacement. I keep getting this very loud click, click..only goes away when I change the vent to off front ventalation to bottom or dual. Next week the car goes in and they will be ripping out the dash and replacing the system. I'm hoping the put humpty dumpty back together again without issue. Anyone else have this problem?

That being said..it's still nice to drive..

I, too, would have opted for the nav; otherwise, have been a happy camper for past 3 years.

Nav and factory satellite radio, didn't want to wait for them to find color combo w/ those options.

If I could go back I would have waited and gotten a M35. Better build quality and more prestige

RhainesSL - The SE does not truly have a 'higher speed' than the SL. The only limiter for the SL is the 'H' rated (132mph) tires. It is easy enough to (as some have done) put 'V' rated tires on the SL, which will then be safe to do exactly the same speed as the SE; they both have exactly the same engine, drive ratio and tranny.

The OEM wheel/tire combo of the SE is designed to give a firmer ride and tighter maneuverability at speed, while the OEM wheel/tire combo of the SL is designed for a more comfortable ride.

But if we put SE wheels and tires on the SL, there would be no difference between the two in any performance area. There was a time when some felt the suspensions were different, but an astute poster here found the suspension parts of the SE and SL had the same part numbers.

------------

As to the question at the start of the thread, I would still get exactly what I have.

My downside is that I spent many many hours over 15 months making countless trips to my dealer waiting for precisely the car I wanted.

One night, while checking the inventory section of nissanusa.com, I saw that exactly the car I wanted was on its way to my dealer. I submitted a written bid before the car actually arrived. We reached a purchase agreement in two days; before the packing materials were removed from the car.

Very good deal on a very good car. Wouldn't change a thing. Life is good.

I would have made sure that detail didn't put a front plate bracket on the front bumper. (Front plates are not issued in SC).

Otherwise it is EXACTLY everything I have wanted.

As usual, there is the 'I would have negotiated more' remorse. I love the car, I would have liked to have paid a bit less! I have the SL with the DPP, only thing missing to my knowledge is Nav. But I never wanted it for $2000.00.

And if I had to do again, I would in a moment!

I love my car, I wish I could keep the black cleaner more often but when I do get it clean it shines.

I guess the only other option I may have went with would have been maybe buying my fathers 03 ES300 instead of him returning it but I would buy another 06 Maxima maybe in the smoke color but thats it.

Higher top speed???? anyway..if you had the se i think you would wish for the sl unless where you live has super smooth roads everywhere, cause the se is a bit harsh on bumps

I wish it didn't brake so much, otherwise I am already loaded without nav but the aftermarket portable units are so much better. Would I buy max again, PROLY NOT.

I thought the same thing BEFORE I had nav "I'll never use it, I know where I am going" But honestly, the NAV has come in handy quite often. Especially with the NAVTraffic and automatic re-routes around traffic and accidents!!
I will never have a car w/o NAV again!!

Oh and back to "if I only knew" I would've gotten the SE (with Sensory pkg), then I wouldn't have the damn 4spd auto!!!

As for my 05 SL Max, i would have added Nismo 19" tires or the Sirius radio. that crap is going to cost me 585.00 to have sirius installed....

However if I knew what I knew know.... I would have waited 4 months and bought an altima SE-R. They have more upgradable parts then maximas....

this is going to be different... i probably wouldn't of gotten navigation unless in had the new traffic thingy available in the newer - cars navigations... i probably if i had a choice would have gone with a g35 coupe instead... but eh always have next time :-)

If I knew there where certified 04-05 G35 models for the same price I paid for the Max, I would have thought twice. I'm happy with my Maxima and I only like the G35 coupe (black).

I disagree. The SE has a governor of 140 I believe and the SL has a governor of 137......unless there is yet another dispute about this. I've seen 2-3 diff. governor statements on these cars: 137(SL), 140(SE), 147(SE)

.
Light,

Even thought Nissan says that the SL come with H rated tires. Mine came with V rated Continetal CV95. Maybe when they change to the 5 speed auto they also change tires.

95Max - My '04 SL also came with the CV95 Contis. But I have looked at other SLs and seen 'H' tires, so I thought mine were an abberration.

It may be that from February 2004 until July 2004 (the period in which the '04 SL was given the same tranny as the SE) Nissan mounted the 'V' tires on the SL.

What!!!! I can only go 137 MPH in my SL?!?! **** that, I'm tradin' her in for an SE!! What a moronic statement, to get the SE for the extra top speed.

I would have gotten the black interior, the gray is so hard to keep clean. And the Chrome Nismo rims.

What chrome Nismo rims? there is no such beast........... And trust me 137MPH is this cars cruising velocity not max speed.

I should have gotten my winter frost maxima with a much darker interior and it should have been leather, or on the other hand a black maxima with black leather interior. Light interiors suck IMO, especially when it snows around my area, its a huge pain in the a$$ to clean. I just couldn't pass out on a great deal I was getting from stealership on the white maxima I'm leasing right now. They only had like two maximas on the lot. The other one had sky view...not my style.
