rear shock shot thru the mount.. any ideas?
I installed rear Tokico blues today. put in new boots and reused all other stuff. So about 10 yards from the house, the right side shock blows throu the mount, making all the wird noises. I looked inside and shock piston shot up thru the mount. Looks like the retainer didn't hold the shaft?
Has anyone heard of anything like this? Did the opening on the mount rusted up a bit, and let the shaft through???
any ideas? Thanks..

Heres some proof that New England roads are pretty brutal. Glad I havent had anything like this happen..
I dont know how you'de fix that but I would say that you will prob have to bring it to a professional to cut off the top of the strut tower and weld a new peice in place of similar guage steel.
Good luck

I do not know if the suspension on the 5th gens are similar in the back to the 4th gens, but if they are it may be that the little cup looking thing (can't remember the name) was put on wrong. Let me dig a little......

Got my 1996 FSM now.... it's called the bound bumper cover. It goes in between the dustboot and the bushing.
I did the same thing and found out I put that on the wrong way.

i'll take some pics today. I was thinking correct sized washer should solve the problem temporarily. Just an fyi, those were original shocks at 136k miles that I replaced.

I dont even know what your talking about... Cup shaped peice of metal??? I did my springs a while ago but the only thing I remember on top of the spring and strut was the top hat and the bump stops. If you dont put the top hat on top of the spring/strut.. theres no way to put the spring/strut back in the car... so I am completly lost about this cup people are talking about. Anyone care to share. Maybe this is a 4th/5th gen thing and not a 5.5 gen thing although I doubt it.

Whenever you are done doing something to your car, left over parts are usually not a good sign, lol.
