Ran down a Lamborghini Murcielago - should have been on video

So yeah I had the privilege to line up with a Lamborghini Murcielago on sunday at the track... a friend of a friend was supposed to videotape the run because BriGuyMax and Max2000jp were running immediately before me and they wouldn't be able to videotape it of course. The long and the short of it is that the guy put the video camera on Memory Mode instead of Record Mode and no video was taken He apologized of course and I told him it was cool but really I was pretty sad.

It wasn't a good run for either of us really but it still would have been fun to have on video of me driving around a lamborghini. That car sounds so sick - I could hear his exhaust clearly as I was passing him - even with my cutout open. I went 12.5 @ 120 to his 12.7 @ 115 - he redlighted so he was out on me probably two cars and then I ran him down and passed him probably around the 1/8th mile and put probably 2 cars on him by the end of the 1/4 mile.

Dude has more money than he knows what to do with obviously - he owns ANOTHER Murcielago (two total), a Gallardo, a modded 996 TT, a modded C6 Z06, etc. I was just glad for the privilege of being able to race such a sick car.

I do have a video of me vs. BriGuyMax's 11.5 second 350Z but it's no fun because brian got sideways around the 330' and lifted so it wasn't even a race. I went 12.4 @ 120 on that run - spent the whole day on drag radials because I forgot to bring my spacers to the track, so I couldn't bolt on the ET Streets

Are ET Streets and ET Street Radials the same? If not can the Radials be used on the street?

No they aren't the same. Both are legal for use on the street though.

Nice. ET Streets are bias ply and will lay down a lot more then ET Radials which are steel belted.

I was at the track 2 weeks ago with the Chicago Maxima Club, and that same plastic surgen was there. He ran a 13.1 because he was slow shifting into 3rd it sounded like. I have pictures and videos of that car runing. Neal your right he also has a C6 ZO6- ran 12.7 in that car.

I was out there runing my Legend (for fun) as my Maxima is waiting for some Raxles and the clutch is on its last legs from last months RT.66 trip.

I kinda wished I could run my Max against that Lambo also.... Oh well maybe next year

I didn't know you have a legend. I love the 6spd coupes - I wanted one of those cars so bad back before I could afford one.

The guy seemed really cool I think he just takes it out there for fun and to give other people a chance to see it and run against it because it's fun for others to see too. I've never seen one up close like that besides at the auto show. He said they can run better if he engages some kind of launch mode on it, but he also said that launch mode is only usable 7 times before it destroys the clutch, yikes. So he was just babying it out of the hole you could tell... first gear on that car is so long he shifts to 2nd gear at around the 330' mark... my car for instance is in 2nd gear around the 60' mark - just a little after it.

My buddy Jason found a picture on another forum of my car lined up with the Lambo. I'll have to go dig it up and post it. Also, I figure someone else at the track likely took video of the run, so maybe I'll still be able to get ahold of it. I happened to mention the run to my father and he doesn't believe me so I'd like to show him lol - he doesn't know anything about anything when it comes to cars though besides basic maintenance.

Pics I took while at Byron 2 weeks ago for the Chicago Maxima drag day shoot out.

<Shameless plug> My stock auto 4 door 91 Legend was the fastest AUTO car in our line up but for Xanders 4th gen with some mods on drag radials and major weight reduction. I have a feeling with no head wind and good start it would pull 14.9 bone stock. Best I got was 15.71@86MPH with 2.4 60' and head wind- bout 10-15MPH. Everyones ET was off that day.

I didn't post that pic and that's not the car I raced, but it's owned by the same guy I believe. He has two Murcis, a gallardo, a 996TT, C6Z06, who knows what else lol. The car I raced was a graphite gray Murci.

I've raced an 8 sec dragster and quite a few 9 and 10 sec cars but never a Lambo, Ferrari or Viper, etc etc. I would like to though; that would be fun for sure...

14.2 in a S2000.... and 15.8 on his 1st run. I never said I was THE fastest one out there, Xander ran in the low 15s all day in his stripped out auto 4th gen with DRs and some mods. My Legend is 16 years old..... stock, and weights more bout the same as a 6th gen- bout 3500lbs. I didn't strip it eighter and had a 3/4 full tank of gas. I ran just for fun.

Let's put it this way. Neal's car, if it were RWD, on slicks, at its current weight, would run mid/low 11's. It is that fast.

Hot damn!

According to C/D, the lamborghini does a 12.6 quarter mile, for comparison purposes, if you look at a very powerul sedan like say, the M5, it does 12.5 qtr. The previous gen E55 and M5 are around 13.4 and 13.

I dont know if its the power to weight ratio, granted these are heavier, but I still can't believe a blown maxima would beat the lambo in a drag race if only the current M5 can out of all these vehicles that make more hp then the max.

Boosted maximas have gone 11's so I don't see how hard this is to believe.

It certainly IS impressive considering Neal's VQ30 is worth maybe 300-400$ in any random junkyard.
So there is such a thing a Cheap, light and strong.

those cars have more horsepower, but you have to understand that they arent designed for drag racing. those cars are high horsepower machines designed for ripping it up on the autoban at 160mph, they dont get out of the hole that well because they dont have a lot of torque. if you could pull the same g's on the skidpad as these cars, they would still kill you on the curves because of the horsepower advantage, neal can beat them at the strip cause hes got lots of torque for the size of his car, its basically even there.

Edit: come to think of it, ive seen a completely built Porsche GT3 that probly had a top speed well over 200mph and was designed as a road course car try at the quarter, lets just say that since he doesnt usually start so slow, he stalled twice on the track.

I wont give excuses for a car that cost a few hundred thousand, bottom line in the 1/4 mile neals car is faster than lambos .

they are all overpriced i bet half the money thats paid for them is profit.

if you want a car thats that fast and that nimble and you dont want to build it yourself you can either put up the money or shut up. and no, youd be surprised how much money it takes. the seats in those cars are stiched by hand, the car is put together by hand. pretty much everything is the best you can buy, so no its not cheap to build. i wasnt knocking neals run at all, its still really really impressive that a maxima can outrun a lambo.

Funny thing is, while most of our cars are paid for..... the Lambo car payment is bout the price of a decent 4th gen- a month.

Sure it handles well, but if I wanted a cone craver I would build a CRX, if I wanted to beat em in the 1/4 I would build a Maxima or anything cheap with big reliable engine. LS series V8s are more than up to making more power than any Lambo ever dreamed of, for a fraction of a cost.

Not knocking on 100k sports cars but a (well-chosen) normal car could be made to equal it handling and power wise for less than 10k in mods if you use a wise combinasion of off-the-shelf parts and custom fabrication. I'll leave it at that.

10K+ Maxima will sure out accelerate the Lambo at ANY speed- if you use a turbocharged 3.0L with a 6spd tranny.

Never said anything bout "out handling". I could have a few purpose built cars for the price of one Lambo. And the funny part is, I could go to AutoZone and buy repleacement parts for them, not that I would need to thou.... Italian cars<German cars< Domestics-Japanesse cars in terms of reliability. (notice Domestic and Japanesse are combined, as Big 3 stepped up their quality ALOT lately)

WHAT? italian cars are pretty reliable, definitely better than german cars, the higher end ones at least. and your post is invalid, that car will definitely out accelerate a maxima at 160mph

Depends on the powerband because the 6MT is geared quite tall.

'Redlining' 5th will get you to about 160(162 w/ stock tires) , and you'll be ~ 5100RPM when starting 6th, had you redlined 5th.(stock rev limit 6550)

if you have the money to afford those toys you would buy them. If you don't you can sit here like all these other clowns and say you would rather build a turd and make it faster and handle better rather than own a Lambo or any other car thats build by hand. F'ucking rediculous if you ask me.
