how do i reset 4th gen ECU?

how do i reset 4th gen ECU?

i know the 5th gen has some type of code witht he gas pedal.. but will that work on a 97 max? or is there a different technique?

There is a screw on the ecu by the gas pedal. You must remove the plastic panel to the right of the gas pedal to expose the screw. It will have tape over it you must remove. Turn the key to the run position. Then turn the screw clockwise as far as it will go for 2 seconds. Then turn it counter clockwise until it stops again. Repeat those steps again and that will reset the ecu. So you turn the screw clockwise then counter clockwise a total of 2 times. Sorry if it's confusing. I'll try to find the web page that explains how to do it better.

woot thx. haha yes soaking it in water sounds good too!! a good excuse to get a new ECU!! =P

i think you can unplug the battery and leave it over night? it worked for me..and then the CEL popped up 15 minutes later

Makes perfect sense.

You can reset the ECU this way, but are not doing anything to fix the problem.

When you reset it the way that is done in the stickys, you're actually getting a code with respect to why it turned on in the first place. Now you have a starting point at fixing the problem, and eliminating the light.
