need deep tone muffler..

I'm getting ready to upgrade my exhaut system. first step, I want to get a warpspeed y-pipe, my stock y-pipe is shot.

can i leave the pipe between the cat and muffler alone for now and change the muffler to a deep tone muffler or do I have to change everything from the y-pipe to the muffler?

what brand of muffler do you guys recommend that will give me a nice deep tone?

note: I'm low on funds now, but I'm getting the y-pipe first, what is the next best upgrade after the y-pipe on the exhaust system?

I had a Ractiv twin tip muffler on my 3rd gen when I had it and it looked and sounded great. A little loud cruising on the highway but I got used to it. It sounded absolutely great in town

You don't need to touch the b-pipe (between cat and muffler) unless it is rusting out. I had a Magnaflow muffler, it sounded great but was loud. I would say one of the best bang-for-the-buck upgrades for a Maxima after the y-pipe would be the UDP. A high flow cat improved my high end and degraded my low end, so its a trade off.

I second that. Magnaflow sounds GREAT, but it leaves my ears bleeding inside the car. I'm going to try adding a second resonator, right before the magnaflow.

I really like the sound of my GReddy, if you can find one for a decent price, I'd pick it up. They are kind of expensive, but in my opinion the sound quality is unmatched.

Here's a few crappy pics of mine..
http://blehmco.com/pics/car/exhaust/

I'm using an 18" magnaflow 2 1/2" resonator and either a 14814 or 14829 muffler.
warpspeed Ypipe and greddy cat back piping. the resonator and muffler had rusted out of the Greedy, so I bought the magnaflow stuff and welded it in place.

And here's a few videos of it:
http://blehmco.com/pics/car/drivetra...engine/videos/

While driving, you can just barely hear a drone from it. at idle, you can hear it, but it's not annoying at all. when I stomp on it, I hear more from the intake than I do the exhaust.

Also keep in mind the videos above are on my semi-built engine with higher compression. that's why you hear the popping type sound from the muffler. you won't hear that on a normal engine.

Vid Clip here

3A muffler

note:
1) beeping in the beginning is my laser detector.
2) slightly windy and have door OPEN when filming from the cabin
3) When hearing reving from the back of the car the exhaust does NOT make the weird sound when letting off the gas.

p.s. People wanted to see my SE tails on my 94 gxe. there it is. I like em:-p

i had a magnaflow on my 3rd gen. pretty damn deep and had a nice sound at idle.

BUT it does drone like mad below 70 or so mph. it gets a little quiet above that. i love the idle, but soon hated the drone...end up getting those cheapo silencer thingies to shut it up a bit.

i love my magnaflow but mine tends to get a little tinny when reving... when driving its a little loud but exhaust isnt exactly supposed to be quiet.....

Aren't there mufflers that are fairly quiet at idle and around town and then open up when you open up the throttle? Wasn't the 2001+ SE stock muffler supposed to do that? I guess what I'm saying is, is there a way to have the best of both worlds- have a deep sound that doesn't drone too much, but does open up under higher revs to give that performance sound and punch?

It's called the Apexi world sport exhaust. my friend has one on his 93 vtec prelude and it sounds soooo nice. pretty quiet at idle and cruising.. but open 'er up and the thing is a beast. the only part that i dont like is the huge 4" tip
