Valve cover gaskets done last night BUT...SOL

Hey guys I replaced my valve cover and plentum gaskets last night with the help of a fellow orger from 4th gen section who happens to be a good friend.

WEll we pulled everything out until we got to distributor, took us a while to figure out but we got it, traced the rotor so we can put it back right. then after that proceded to cleaning everything and using a razor blade to scrape whatever gunk had been accumulated over the years. So after putting everything together with new gaskets and connected all the vaccum hoses, noticed a few were cracked and ripped. and also on the process of putting plentum on..a metal line that comes from like where the y pipe connects to TB cracked a bit.

So I we tried connecting hoses in whatever way we could best and turned on car, its cranks and turns on kinda but doesnt stay on after I let go of key and you can still hear something like whinning or spinning in the engine. Can anyone guide me to what the prob could be? I'm about to go buy 4-5 feet worth of real tiny vaccuum hoses and replace all. but I dont know if thats fully the problem. Also the S shaped hose from PCV to rear valve cover is pretty cracked but cant get it anywhere so I'm gonna put on emergency hose tape and go to dealer tomorrow if its opened (which I doubt)

lol thanks a lot greeny, Alex just IMed me telling me I might need a timing light and all these other scary things but I saw one yesterday for 30 bucks so I'm guessing I'm gonna have to take that from my donating to org funds and get my car running before I can donate. Why does this always happen to me?

hey guys just got back from friends house which is where my car spent the night, went over everything step by step and found many cracked hoses as previously stated and 2 unplugged that were still in good condition. I also found the reason why my car wasnt starting, 1 of those 2 hoses that were unplugged included the one that goes connected to the IACV, it was on top covering the port where it plugs making it look connected from top but wasnt, as soon as I plugged it and tried starting it worked but then the 2nd hose included the one for coolant thats under the PCV valve so I got coolant all over the place but hey I replaced everything else so its all good now. I just got back from car wash from spraying off the engine. All I gotta do now is change that exhaust to EGR valve line which shouldn't be too bad.

Feels good to finally start getting my car the way I've been wanting it. Just some more maintenance catching up til I can begin bodywork.

Alex no need for timing light, not that I know of. Thanks all for those suggestions and advice, now I can donate cuz I didnt buy timing light

Good Im glad you got it done. I didnt notice you called, the phone was on the charger. Having the idle motor disconnected just might affect the idling...
