I was wondering if you have started to hear your a/c system starting to sound really loud now that it is a lot warmer. Today I noticed that it was running quite loud most of the time until I kept the car at a consistant speed for a period of time. My temperature gauge reads normal halfway between hot and cold, but when the a/c is turned on it just sounds so much louder than it use to. Let me know if you guys are experiencing the same thing.

It's hot here too...

But I don't really notice anything that is drastically different. I live in south MS and it gets to be around 95 degrees F during the day.

Hey Mrburner, I live over in east Mesa but I do work in Phoenix so I have a hell of a drive every day. I have a 2000 sunlit sand SE 5-speed, no mods as of yet (unless you count my superman sticker on the back of my car). I just noticed the louder sound today since it was probably the worst day so far and I just happened to be driving around a lot. I bought my car in august of last year and last year was nothing compared to other summers here. But my car is due for an oil change here pretty soon so I will bring it up to the service advisor when I take it in. I have not seen your Maxima around yet, but I do believe that I have seen desert pearl's. There is one down by me with 18 or 19" rims and a deep purple color that looks very nice. But I have not seen him post on here yet nor have I gotten the chance to talk to him yet. But where do the rest of you live in arizona?

Sorry, I got so excited about the track I forgot to reply to your question.

I have not noticed any change in my air, but then again I just got the car a few weeks ago.

I posted a question about this earlier, at one time. But didn't get many responses. Mine make a loud whirling, whinning noise. It's loud. Took it to the dealer, they said they didn't hear anything. When I got it to make the noise, they were still puzzled and ask me what I thought might be the problem. I told them a bearing maybe... because I used to drive buses and I heard something like that noise once and a day later, that bus went down for broken bearing in the generator... They said they'll listen to other Maximas and get back to me, yeah right... for now I'll just keep using my AC as much as possilbe and see if it'll break later... Got extended warrenty, I'm not too worried yet. Let us know if you take it in and what they say. My AC works great though.

I talked to a few people today that have work on cars and they told me that the newer cars have a second fan that will kick in when the temperature gets too hot. Today was 116 but I did'nt drive today so I didn't get the chance to see if it would do it again. But I would believe that there would be a second fan or somthing that would help keep the engine cool. At least I hope that is the case, But I will still ask the service advisor and see what he says... DAMN ITS HOT HERE!!!

Oh and would love to go to the track, but damn i'm probably going to wait till it cools down. I have a feeling this is going to be a very bad summer here. I'll band together with ya Adam, oh and by the way, my name is Kevin

Yea, I know about the two fans, one is for the engine radiator and one is for the ac, yet they both suck air through both radiators/condensor. The AC fan turns on automatically when you turn the AC on unless it's below 23 degress. The sound I'm talking about and the sound you are probably hearing is not the fan but coming from the AC compressor.

After I read this post I did notice my a/c was quite loud. Actually when the a/c is on is sounds more like fan noise than anything, but you are right about the whining noise!

Well, my car is making that sound again and yes it definately is kind of a whirling noise. But then it is 112 or so right now so i'm thinking that it is normal. But I will still ask the advisor about it. But about this friday guys, I won't be able to make it. My girlfriend has already made plans which means that I have plans, which means i have no choice hehe.. But I definately want to hook up with you just so I can see how crappy I shift against you guys.

if....

if you have that noise and the cooling gets weak, then your AC might be overcharged. Mine came from the factory over charged. We hit 115 last summer and it failed. I was not happy.

I've had my Max now since March and have had no problems with the A/C. Took it to Las Vegas last week and it worked great all the way.

Anyway, I don't post much, more of a reader. I'm up in Peoria so the regulars on this forum don't see me around.

After toying with the a/c yesterday, I found that the noise will decrease when your compressor is not on high. It takes longer to cool the cabin down but at least I don't have to listen to that damn noise.

My other solution is to get the Y-Pipe and then I probably won't have to worry about it!
