My short ram 3.5 IM setup

Iam at the point where iam ready with this setup just have to strenghten my throttle cable bracket alittle that will be done this week.

I have driven with this setup a few months ago when i wasnt finished with the bracket and insides and it felt very peaky then.I dont know how much so at this point because i have the stock 6500rpm limiter. But this winter i will have the EU installed and do some comparison dynos up to 7800 rpm between the elbow and short ram setup.

With the ECU you will also be able to eliminate the MAF. Even less restriction. I was thinking of doing that setup on my 240 'cause I needed the TB on the pass side and not in the firewall (RWD) but it won't clear the hood in either cases.

Iam thinking baout the MAP conversion but i really want a IACV iam trying to be without it but hate how the car is without it .

I wonder how the IACV would be set up with MAP anyone have any ideas?

Kris the set up for the IACV without the MAF is not different than with it. I pulled the MAF out of my car back in Sept and once I got the EU tuned up and dialed in with the pressure sensor I could not tell the difference in driveability with or without the MAF. Either way it doesn't affect the function of the IACV since the EU fakes a MAF signal to the ECU and controls the tune using pressure as the load variable.

Ok to be 100% clear on this . with map i plan on running a filter right off the TB .
Ill have no midpipe .so the hose that usually connects and draws air from the midpipe can just be disconected to hang free and suck from the engine bay??

Well I think you'd still want to filter the air somehow even without a midpipe... that hose draws air to the IACV and into the engine.

So what you're essentially going for here is darn close to a poor man's ITB setup? There's still one throttle and a common plenum, yes, but everything is so short and direct that it almost seems like a good attempt at doing things without spending $1000+.

Yeah thats what iam going for .
iam not going to buy a IM this is what iam sticking with ,with my elbow its already peaky.

with the elbow gone its VERY peaky. seems to come on after 6k and slaps the 6500 rpm limit.
the TB butterfly is actually about 2 inches Inside the IM when it opens and the TB is almost centered the air really takes no turns it rams straight into the engine.
When i open the TB and look into the IM i can see each runner and they have horns it seems nissan put on them (built into the casting).

The sound it makes is different than ive ever heard on my car ,cant describe it .

Dandy thanks .so i can just put a filter on the IACV neck? and then ill weld the IACV to the rear of the IM.

i have another question i wont be buying the EU for at least 4-5 weeks i want to start on installing the harness(es) can i just buy them by themselves?

Vias could be kept with this setup but with mine its gone and once its removed all the pieces it cant ever come back.

I would recommend anyone who just wants there max for a daily driver and who goes to the track once in a blue moon, to keep the vias. I couldnt imagine not having it and being full weight.

Ill tell you driving with this elbow gone for a daily driver would feel awful with non weight reduced max.

I have no dynoes nothing just seat of the pants but it doesnt feel good below 5500-6000rpm.

Iam dieing to get dynoes of both with EU but i dont have one yet. But iam suprised there hasnt been more interest in this . More so from the 3.5 drag racers . SR20DEN are you there

the vias is inside the plenum, the switches/hoses are on the end away from the elbow

It makes a difference, and that's what matters in a drag car. Judging from the comments, though, the difference isn't worth the tradeoffs for a street car.

because in early march EU will be installed,if its still not 5 degrees out. i dont have a garage so iam waiting on warmer temps . the day its installed i will be on a dynojet testing both ways and iam hopeing over 5500-6000 rpm it will shine.we shall see ,it may not do anything good.who knows

i have a new DVD camcorder and if you guys behave i may put up vids

but the good thing is it can be swaped back in forth in 5-10 minutes and the IM isnt changed.
just add the elbow back' i dont have 2 3.5 IM's . just one and i can swap back and forth between short ram and elbow. My point if you ever want the short setup (if it makes power)you dont have to give up the other way.

MY 12.72 is with the elbow i have never raced with the short ram or for that matter on the street been over 40 mph with it so i really havent done a real test and the fact i cant go over 6500 rpm hurts it also.

two things i will say . over 5500 the tach needle comes alive and slaps the rev limit. the second thing is i have never heard a VQ sound like this does at WOT.

Is this something like the ssim that people r doing, removing the butterflies in the 3.5 intake manifold to yield crazy high end power after about 4500?

I take it you never got any results with the IM changes? Your experience may affect how long/short I make the elbow on my SSIM project, lol
