1996 Maxima SE with Cloth Seats-heated seats. How do I install the heat switches-?

Hey guys !! Happy Holidays !! I have a 96 Max with cloth seats, I would like to change the seats to leather with heated seats in them. But I don't see any switches in the car by the console to turn the heated seats on and off. So I wanted to know if I have to install a seperate harness-? Or wires-? Maybe from the dealer-? Any help would be great ! Thanks

you have to run the power and ground wires and install some switches. there is no harness in the car for it.

jus as a quickie...I have to do the same for leather seats i picked up. there are three wires for the heated seats, they are hi, lo and ground. So i figure, if you get a DPST switch (Double Throw Single Pole), you can connect hi to one prong, ground in the middle, and lo to the last prong. Ground the black to and existing black gound wires which runs under the carpet and tap off the power wires from a 12V wire running in the car. You can find one which turns off with the car, such as the ciggarete lighter, or a constant 12 V like the White wire with red tracer that runs under the carpet. Ill let you know how it works when I try it.

sounds liek either there's something wrong with your system(check to make sure you get power at the switches with a test light)
or someone put a center console with heated switches in your car.

if you also swapped the seats and have heated seats i think you just need to get them plugged in and find power and ground to the switches.

you need a full service manual for the schematic to find out which wire is what. as far as power goes, tap into a wire in the fuse block.

for the love of god watch the amperage on that cig lighter. i dont kow why people always use that line its not made for seat heaters !! even if it holds the second you go to use your cig lighter its gonna pop the fuse. run a new line from the batt and fuse it.

wtf? i never said anything about tapping into the cig lighter. i said the fuse box. if you're good, you would put a spade into an empty spot so you can use it like a stock fuse. or, get this, look for the one that says it includes the heated seats, and tap into that one!

Hey guys ! Did anybody wire up their seats yet-? I just did mine, and I was wondering if I did everything right-? I ran a wire from the fuse box, and took power from the heated seats source. Ran it threw the console and split it into two sending power to both switches. Then I grounded the heated seat to the power seat harness and then to the heated seat switch. Then ran the high and low to the existing prongs on the swtich. I used an OEM Heated Seat Switch.I tested it this evening and seem to work fine, until when I got home, and I got no low from the passenger side seat. But I wanted to know from you guys if this is normal operation- When I put the switch on HI , I get a bright light in the middle of the switch, and then when I put it in LOW ,the light goes dim. I was wondering if that is normal-? I thought the light should stay bright both ways-? I was thinking that maybe I have to ground both switches together -? Any help would be great, thanks !

factory wise, both witches do ground together. Dont think it is necessary though. as for grounding it to the pwoer seat switch, i wouldnt as that may put too much load on the ground if the heat is on and you move the seat. just my personal opinion. the lights, I never really payed attention to them but i think they are the same intensity when on high or low. i'll check when i have a chance.

I have to say I'm astonished that there is no plug already *there* - seems awfully inefficient to me to actually wire the cars based on the *end* option selected... I replaced the seats in my previous Max (an 89 SE) - the stock were non-powered, non-heated and I got some powered/heated ones from the bone-yard... Lo and behold, the wires and plugs were already there - just tucked under the carpeting...
