Buy this one? Pls comment

I just went to see another Max bc my son quite likes driving mine and lo and behold I found it was identical, same paint (Arctic Pearl) and trim etc. Another gle!
The guy wants $4900 for it, will take $4700. It has the following issues:
Graunch in the sill, I guess about $200 worth of work. Needs a new exhaust.
Has alloy wheels off a Pontiac, they resemble sawblades. They look ok.
My main worries are, first, the check engine light is disabled so I will have to put a scanner on it to get the codes, and I bet there are some. And second, probably more worrying, the ABS warning light is lit.
I nearly forgot to mention, it drives well, brakes well, has excellent black leather, everything works except the Bose CD player, good paint, no engine leaks, good tyres, 105,000 miles on the odo.
Your opinon?

Id be wary. You should see if there are any codes, have the seller fix them if there are any along with the ABS light. as for the exhaust, if your son is into moding the max, let him put on an after market performance system. I would also ask about the wheels, although they do fit are they the right off set and diameter as not to throw off the speedometer. Other than that, the car sounds to be a solid buy with not to many miles. Just my .02 cents.

Skip it IMO, these cars are CHEAP nowdays, you can defiently do better, if you dont mind driving to find it.

Just my thoughts

The ABS and CE light worry me too. See if you can check the codes before you buy it. The seller should let you do that, if not, they may know something that they don't want you to see.
Sounds like a decent car. Just be cautious about those lights. Good luck.

You should easily be able to find one w/ less issues at that price. Good choice though; as we know, 4th Gen Max is probably the best used car in that price range.

If it's mechanically affected, I would steer away.

I just bought a 96 GLE w/108K for 4100. Had to replace the pass axle. There were no other issues. I think thats plenty high, espically with all the isues it has. And I got mine from a dealer, and looking around I've seen them for less. You can find the ABS code so you know what you are dealing with. I wonder why the CEL is disabled???? I think you can do better. The botom line is if you are happy with it, get it.

Too high for the price as most have said. I paid 5K even for mine earlier this year, and it had aroun 78K miles...No CEL, Paint was in great shape, no previous wrecks, interior was good, really no flaws to the car as it was hardly driven...granted all of the maintenance wasnt done(IE the fuel filter, air filter, etc...) but thats fine now. Anyway, I say follow scrhales advice, get a loaded SE 5speed. Wish I wouldave done the same...(mines an auto )
