air bag light flashing?

The other day when i came out of walmart, i started my max and noticed the air bag light on the cluster didn't go off like it should. After i started driving, the light started flashing. It comes on for about 2 seconds, goes off for about 2 seconds, comes back on for 2 seconds, etc. I tried turning the car off and starting it again but it still does it. Since i was a few blocks from autozone, i figured i'd stop by and ask them. They said they didn't know, so they plugged the code scanner in, but didn't find anything about the air bag. They did find out i have a bad knock sensor, and a misfire....i went ahead and ordered the KS and am going to replace the plugs. But i still can't get rid of the air bag light. I reset the ECU and everything, but still no luck. Anyone else ever have this problem or know how to get rid of it?

thanks

Some have had luck resetting it, it's in the stickies. Otherwise to the dealer you may go.

lol you have a 95, i know the 98's have a common problem with the side modules going bad. I know mine is, ive thrown it on the consult many times to report a open right side module. I believe the part is like $300 but not sure. Yours could be the control module the one under the center console compartment, its best to try reset it and if that doenst work, you may be forced to take it to the dealership because many ob2 readers dont do air bag codes.

ive been driving around with flashing air bag lights for atleast 2-3 years on both my 98's. It reallly bothered me at first..not so much anymore. No one has told me a definative answer whether or not any of the airbags will go off, so ill find out the hard way.

Ok thanks guys. i doubt the airbag would go off....If it isn't hurting anything then i most likely won't replace it. Ill reset it and take it to a dealer, but i'm not paying $300...blah. If the airbag does go off, i'll sue Nissan

download the FSM and pull the Airbag Code. That will tell you which of the components has gone bad.

I have the same problem on my 98 maxima gle. The air bag light has been going off for almost three years now since I bought it from the first owner. The dealer told me it was the air bage module. Price:300. What did I do? Just drive, now it's part of my everyday experience. I really would like to know how to reset the damn thing just for the sake of it.

yeah i dont know if they gave you the print out of what the consult code it gave but it was probably something like RH module open. Basically as far as the system is concerned there is an open circuit. You will need a new side airbag control module, for whatever side is tripping it. I believe the part number on those is K8EHM-1L005 for the right side or K8EHA-1L005 for the left side, those sound familiar?

Also according to my service records the car has done this since april of 2000. They replaced the harness as per the TSB but its back again, so im assuming it most likely is the module, there is a testing procedure in the ESM. Both of my 98's have done this for aslong as ive owned them.

As far as i know you cant reset it, because with it being open it will trip it again right after, ive tried with the door method, and the key method, ive also tried with the consult and it wont clear it either. I think ill be getting the module soon, it is more of peace of mind knowing that my air bags will go off for sure rather then not knowing at all if any of them will go off.

another solution a lot of people have found is to remove the junk from undreneath the passenger seat. appearantly stuff down there squeezes some wires together or something that can also cause it to blink.

Purge the Passenger Seatbottom

Unbelievable. For 3 months I've had the dreaded blinking light. Dealer put it on the computer and said it was the passenger airbag module and it would be $329 parts and $100 labour to fix. Tried the reset procedure w/o luck. Read the last post and removed the CD wallet from under the passenger seat. Encore the reset procedure. The blinking light is gone. Thanks for that.

Open your drivers door, turn the ign to on, don't start just turn to on. Push in the door sensor 7 times within 10 secs then turn your key off. I had to do it twice after unplugging my passeneger airbag but it worked.
