Vias nipple setup (photo diagram)

after the swap i just went on about my way. i asked about how to tie open the control arm for high end power a few days ago. today i look around to see how i need to go about doing this and it occured to me, i dont even know if the nipples on the vias are correct.

how is everyone else got theirs setup ? im running just the oovi with no way to activate the vias for top end right now.

#1 - does this nipple need to be plugged or left open (what is it anyways?)
#2 - open or closed off
#3- open or closed off

Also on #2 if i connect a hose to it and run it to #4 , does this sound like a good way to get vaccum to open up the high end power? After looking around, will just about have to take iacv and some other things off to tie open that control arm thing. seems like the hose technique with a vacuum source would be easier. just dont know what the heck im looking at here.

If you want to keep it open connect #3 to #4. #3 is the VIAS switch. #2 is for your swirl valves which you removed. But you can't remove it for a weight reduction b/c it leaves a huge hole in the VIAS mechanism. Trust me I tried.

I still don't know what #1 is for but I was trying to take of the metal bracket that holds those switches and broke the nipple. No ill effects.

all you need is #3. you cannot connect #3 to #4 because it would always be open. you need to connect #3 before the TB since there is no vacuum and the VIAS will pull air when it needs(after you get a VAFC or w/e)

He wants to keep it open at all times therfore 3 and 4 would work.

ok i just got back from a test drive.

plugged #1
connected a hose from #3 to #4

results: overall the car feels faster like this, both low and top end. one thing i noticed was is that the engine died on me several times as i would pull up to a stop sign for example. odd ?

Well connecting #3 & #4 would create vacuum and keep the VIAS open all the time correct? So at a stop wouldnt it be pulling too much air (hence the stall)? Or am I thinking off the mark here?

im not sure, i still have it hooked up like this and its not happening anymore. it only did it right after i hooked everything up this way, and then took off down the street.

still dont know what #1 does if anything ?

drag racing in the morning. should i run any test on the differences or should i just race what feels the fastest ? present setup feels faster overall to me

went for test drive tonight, race day tommorrow, noticed something odd, now that i have the OOVI setup for to end power, i realized tonight my intake filter isnt making that obnixiously loud growl like it did before.

has anyone noticed this ? im hearing almost all exhaust, where as before it was a mix between the two (00vi not open) and on the usim where the intake just growls through the hood.

anyone notice this? any explanation ?

Im wondering when you crank the car and its just ideling should the vias move back or should it not move intill its actavated

Ok im trying to understand this thing to be sure im hooked up right. Ok when the car is off the arm is donw towards the ground on the resting arm. then when I crank the car it goes up twards the fire wall! So I guess witch way is open and witch way is closed.

ok take the vaucum from it and it goes back down or rev it up hard and it comes back down. So i guess for part throttle or cruising its up and I guess that would be open. It that what i want?

I keep saying it but no one listens, if you put vacuum to the VIAS with no control system its going to close when you rev the motor because all the vacuum keeping it open at idle goes away when you accelerate the motor.

FWIW:
Resting on Stop = Closed VI
Towards the Firewall = Open VI

I thought even with the rpm switch to control the vias, that #3 wasnt supposed to have vacuum?

I assume these guys are talking about running it without the RPM Switch in case you would have to physically tie open the actuator. You are correct and for my setup the RPM switch would not activate with #3 connected to vacuum, it would close right away.

With the RPM switch/controller vacuum isnt required.

well i honestly thought all this time that the brown connector and nipple above it was what controlled the 00VI upper, so i thought all this time to keep it open i would supply vaccum to #2 or the nipple above the brown connector.

i just got back from racing this weekend. will put my results up in 1/4 mile forums now. will post up link in this thread real soon. at present lets just say the results were not good at all.

#2/Brown Connector is the vacuum/power source for the Cali spec butterfly valves that you removed before the install.

Hey Ceaser I just edited my 2nd post. I didn't realize that I misinformed you. The #2 doesn't do anything since you removed the swirl valves. My bad.
