Just do the routine. Change all fluids. Change plugs with NGK Copper ($12). Air filter, Fuel filter. Change the brakes. Check the suspension. and i hope you have no CEL. After that, wait to see what pops up (if anything).

I just bought the same car in auto with 150k for $4,000!

The VQ30DE is a pretty reliable engine. I just learned from a friend of mine that is a Nissan tech that the cams and water pump are chain driven. No internal belts to change! The serpentine belt is just for the accessories, p/s pump, a/c compressor and alternator.

Keep the fluids changed, watch for leaks, and enjoy it. If the tranny leaks then take it to a tranny shop and expect a rebuild. That's the only thing to be mildly concerned about.

The rear trunk looks like a ghetto paint job. It doesn't match with the rest of the car's paint.

like stated the rear looks like it may have been hit. also, the screws for the license plate are quite rusty, so i would give the undercarriage/brake system/fuel and brake lines a good inspection for rust. do you know where the car came from?

car is from albany, ny. very close to buffalo.

i check out the car thoroughly, it looked and match the paint. i even car fax this thing and it was clean, no accidents, two owners. the only thing i could not understand was the rust by the speaker? any reason why?

i agree with 2da....check the fluids and maybe even change them if you dont know when the last time they were changed was. make sure plugs are good. maybe change fuel filter. basically just do a tune up. but once again, you shouldnt have paid $5g's for it. could have gotten that car for $3500 or even cheaper with those kind of miles on it.

i have no ide why there would be rust near the speakers? does it work right? but remember carfax isnt always correct.people actually have to make effort to put info on there. for example: i carfaxed my car and it said no accidents. put it on a lift and realized the radiator/front end was a little crushed in, which could really only be from an accident.

something is wrong here. he already has a '98, but spends 1yr looking for another, then offers to sell it for more than it's worth? he's either a used car salesman or he regrets his purchase and is trying to dump it on someone else. either way this is the wrong forum.

buffalo or albany (close to vermont) you will end up with a lot of rust due to lake effects. there is a ton of moisture in the air and plenty of salt on the road. I am sure you will find plenty or rust underneath if you jack it up. have any engine pics? I know someone who will take the car from you now....................for about $3k.

you would like to have funding ready for repairing the transmission, clutch, and A/C for this car in the coming years.

carfax reports a accident if the car was report'd in a accident, who ever had ur car prolly wreck'd it, and fix'd it without tellin the insurance or report by police..

Rear trunk?
Paint seems to match. Little foggy though, but could be the camera.

Check under the little black corner trim on the door and see if mirror mounting is rusted out. From the mileage and age, a rock or something buggered up the molding/ seal around the mirror and over time, it rusted out. Therefore dripping and running down the door into where the speaker is.
OR
Its bad weatherstripping. You should talk some silicone on a rag and run it around all of the rubber seals on the car. It will help seal plus treat the old seals, may take a couple shots. I am assuming your car is from NY too, that means you have a salt sponge too, like me.

As for the price, I paid $5,000 for my 98 (no leather and auto) but only had 118,000 on it. You may have paid a little more, but if you were looking for a year, you got the car you wanted, so who cares. At least you know what you have, and have a love for it. Just keep it clean and the fluids changed. (Check the Lower core support too.)

Nothing is wrong with the paint on the trunk, it's just a bad pic. I'm not trying to rag on you like some of these guys, but I think you overpaid a little bit for this car...I have a 97 SE with 103,000 miles and, for my car, I don't think it's even worth $5k. You can't get it back though, so you might as well enjoy it. Check out the pic where you show the door open and you're describing the blk on blk, there looks to be some kind of rust where the door closes. I know for a bit I was having problems with water being on the plastic foot scrape area next to where you adjust the seats...it randomly stopped happening though, so maybe you have/had an issue with the material that seals the door to the frame.

I have a 96 with manual transmission and 1st and 2nd gears broke the other day after chirping into second. The tranny was making strange noises for a few weeks before that. The car has 151,000 miles. I dont know how it was driven its first 124k but the 27k it has been with me over the last 2 years were probably pretty rough for that tranny.

How long do these 5 speeds usually last? My car is under the knife right now and they will know tomorrow whats really going on inside there.

So...waited a year to find a black on black that you have always wanted, then sell on ebay?? What's up with that.

not to mention about 5 other cars for sale too. Looks like someone lied about not being a used salesman...

It all depends on how well it was put together and how well it's driven. Chirping tires is not good for it.

I feel so used. May the OP wake up in the morning and find out he bought a 1987 Honda Civic in disguise!!

The best year? 97's are the best year. Least amount of problems. Right shape. No extra air bags. Air bag light isnt lit when you keep stuff underneath the passenger seat.

Analysis of your money layout says alot about you, for starters that you are unorganized, (bills are turned different ways) not meticulous, (bills are old and new versions, clean and dirty), more than likely a showboater, (for the simple fact you posted the money pic) and more than likely either is wanted by the law or have extremely bad credit (because you have to pay for everything in cash and posted the money pic).

From the Mind of Mencia; Just Kidding of course.
