Fit 00-01 Bose unit into 4th gen?

Anyone tried to do this? it looks like it might take some modification to accomplish, (front panel looks like it has a slight V shape instead of being a box) but I also wondered about plugging into the existing wiring harness, anyone that has done this or knows why it can't be done (with reasonable modification) Please let me know.
Thanks,
John
Oh and its a 96 SE with Bose system that I want to put it into......

for the work it would take to modify it to fit, why not just go aftermarket?

not worth it. Anytime you offer one of these threads they will tell you to go aftermarket. 00-01 HU don't fit without cutting things a lot. Easier to get a 05 PF unit or go aftermarket.

Get an 03-04 Pathfinder or an 03-06 350z Bose, you can't go wrong, you get better sound and a in dash 6 pack CD as well.

Sound isn't going to be very different at all. Maybe a little. You still have the stock speakers.

Why don't you want to get a stock headunit from a maxima ? It's guaranteed to fit and the sound quality is the same if not better.
My friend got a 2007 maxima and his bose sounds like cra@p, it has no bass.
My bose sounds twice better with excellent bass.
I'm selling it on ebay and the auction ends tomorrow.
