Does it crank? If so, not NSS.

Battery good? Loud click would be the starter solenoid, which would rule out nss. Hit the starter, see if it cranks then.

You didn't say the relay clicked before! I suggested NSS or BOO because you said nothing happened. The NSS or BOO are safety lockouts that prevent the car from starting unless you are in Park or Neutral, and have your foot on the brake. If the starter starter solenoid clicking then the NSS/BOO are good.

Do your dashboard lights come on normally and then dim when you try to start? Dimming is classic low battery symptom.

Which relay is clicking? The starter solenoid? Take a hammer and hit it like it was Raven Riley. If it starts after that then your starter is going bad.
If the click comes from a different relay then find which one.

Push starting's fun, esp when everybody's watching from a busy street and you're trying to get enuf clearance to roll.

Lately, I've been having a time with my Maxima. She'll start just fine some days, and then others I will turn the key and get just one single click and nothing. I was driving around for awhile the other day, turned off the car for a few minutes and tried to start back up and nothing. Just that annoying single click. Tried to start in Neutral, nothing. Moved the shifter back and forth, nothing. Waited a few minutes, and she started right up. So i'm trying to figure out what the deal is.

Is it the shifter bushings?

Is is the NSS?

Or is it a starter going bad?

I took the max to autozone to get a diagnostic, but I think they only checked the battery and alternator. I guess I need to take the starter off to get that checked?

I should also mention that the incident the other day happened when I was parked on an incline. Maybe if my linkage bushings are bad, that is why a neutral start or jostling with the shifter wasn't working effectively?
