If the tensioner is not excerting tension on the belts, then the serpentine belt will not have enough tension to turn the alternator, which means your battery won't get charged, which means your car will only run until your battery drains.

I just replaced mine from pinnacle nissan and you can buy the parts individually online. the adjust bolt was $9 and change and the nut was $4 and change. Look for ac belt tensioner.

The tensioner pulley assembly is the same for all 95-04 Maximas. Maybe even later.

Get one from a junkyard or from www.courtesyparts.com, or www.pinnaclenissan.com. part is ~ 43$

make sure the rear bracket is still in good shape since the tensioner pulley comes separate.

You can drive it for a short distance if you have good battery power. I drove 35 miles one time (~45 mins) w/o one.

Is the belt tight or will it slip right off in your hands? If you cant pull it off with your hands, drive the car. Dont rev it too high. Save yoruself the towing fee.

I got the part after that i needed from nissan. costs 26 bucks. Its the adjustment bolt and the peice that screws into the bolt.As for driving the car, even tho the bolt cracked its still solid and only a couple nuts and such are took off my alternator but its not off.And when it comes to reving the car, its an auto so no reving like a 5spd(i wish it was 5spd).I charged my battery all the way up and i have to go about 15 mins.I think i can make it

O I just realized the bracket on the assembly the top of it is where it was turned and it cracked. thats the only thing other the that its all still together and even that bolt didnt come out of the bracket.

not bad, you made out pretty good. I took mine all apart and drilled and tapped it. Then welded some threaded rod onto the other piece. I think it's stronger than the original one.
