nismo knockoffs vs stock 3.5

hey guys i'm looking at putting cams in my 3L. i have talked to stephenmax about making the adapters and drilling the cam sprockets but i was looking for advice. i like the idea of the 3.5 cams because you can find them for pretty cheap but i was wondering how more of a gain i could see if i used the nismo knockoffs from ebay that i have seen a few guys running in the 3.5's. my car is down for now and will hopefully be back up running next month after i get all the parts for my 6 speed swap, headers and possibly cams. any info would be great. thanks

We wish we could have Nismo's for that price.

being that the lift is higher on the knockoff does that mean that i could run into the problem of valve clearance? it says on the website that stock valve springs are ok to use. i'm just lookin for some advice. i guess by looking at the numbers the knockoffs are better, but cams are not my specialty. thanks

i'm with you on this one. cams are a complicated animal. hard to say what is better, but i guess it comes down to where you want your power band at (i think)...

yes it does. cams are really interesting to understand, are you planning to stay NA? where do you want your powerband? more HP or torque? so many questions affect the right answer, we need to know what you want here.

so from what i've read so far, oem valve springs are ok to use if rev limit is set at or below 7500 rpm and lift is below 11mm (please correct me if i'm wrong).

the jwt knock off on ebay would probably do well with the 7500 (imo) but with the lift at 10.9, i think i'd wanna get the jwt valve springs just to be on the safe side.

with the stock 3.5 cam, i'd say oem valves are a suitable choice and to find a good rev limit (00vi equipped or course) i think you'd need to dyno and see where your power band starts to fall off. i think 7500 rpm would be fine if not kinda high.

of course these are all slightly educated newb guesses, as i've never messed with the stuff, based on the info i've attempted to absorb from other threads. the question of valve clearance on the 3.0 using 3.5 cams has me stumped, as this is one area i hear little of. any thoughts or needed corrections???

stick with stock 3.5L cams
on a 3.0L you don't want too much lift/duration. your driveability (daily driver u said) will suffer.

i hear you on that, but i know that 260 really isn't that big for a cam and it won't lope that much. i mean if i just turn the idle up like it says it shouldn't be too bad. also the exhaust side would be great with the spray. thanks for the info.
