Belts, hoses, and Radiator Cap

Well, with 100k around the corner, i figure i might as well do the above listed items, so i dont get stuck anywhere.

A few questions though,

Who makes the best belts, hoses, and is there really any merit (or any negatives) to the Nismo radiator cap.

Also there are 2 belts right?
Anyone got a DIY link? how hard are they to do?

Hoses, again i know the main 2, but how many little ones are there? what sizes?
Anyone got a DIY link? and how hard are they?

Thanks

You are welcom to change all the hoses but I don't see any merit in replacing the little ones that go to the heater etc. Remember they are pre-fabricated for lenghts and bends, they don't come cheap. I leave that part to you if you want to replace them or otherwise.

Coming to the main radiator hoses, I have replaced them when I toasted my radiator. I got Gates hoses from local distributor. They are very easy to replace, drain the radiator and replace them. Don't forget to burp the system. One of the org members had one of the pressure clamps break, which seldom happens, it is good to check them and replace if needed.!!!

Yes, that is one way. Take off the radiator cap, plug the overflow pipe, raise the front of the car (raised driveway is best) and run the car for 30 minutes. After that fill the overflow tank to above high mark, reconnect the overflow pipe and then any volume needed is sucked from the overflow tank.

The other way is to remove the air relief valve and once coolant stops to flow off the valve, most air in the system is burped out. Fill the radiator and you are done.

I do both to be sure there is no air in the system.

Where is the air relief valve located?

I know where it is located on a 5th gen, but not sure where it is on a 4th gen.

On the 5th gen going towards back of the car, starting from the upper radiator hose where the hose connect to the block, on the block first comes coolant temp sensors, then there is a hat like dome structure (which is another valve housed under the dome), on the top of the dome structure is a 10m screw, that is the air-relief valve. On the dome is pasted a yellow stamp "Do not remove when hot".

Hope this helps, normally the relief valve on the nissans are on the hot side of the vehicle, that is on the path of the upper radiator hose.

Go with OEM or Goodyear Gatorback belts. AutoZone has a how to.
