on another note, I have a ve 5 speed in the garage. I was planning on keeping it for a potential swap in the future, but i guess i'd part with it for the right price.

Well the car it came off had a bad motor but i'm sure the tranny is fine. Had no leaks, oil looked surprisingly clean when i drained it. Shipping would be kind of high if you need it by monday. Last tranny I sold cost $100 for ground shipping which takes about a week. PM me with an offer if you wants.
Oh, and it's aluminum color

i thought it needs to heat up before it locks the other side.
How does a Viscous LSD(VLSD) work? each output shaft of the differential is tied together by a device known as a viscous coupling. This is basically two slotted discs that have a silicon fluid between them. If the discs are rotated at a speed that varies relative to each other this produces friction which heats the silicon fluid up. The silicon becomes more viscous as it's temprature rises. There will be a point where the silicon will become viscous enough to hold the two discs together (this is why the discs are slotted, it is so the silicon will have something to grip to).
i doubt there was enough heat generated in the diff by you turning the axle by hand.
thoughts?

Yup,if it spun in the opposite direction,it's screwed..

so does anyone think its the same wheel spin test for automatics?
I have a spare VLSD differential in the garage from a parts tranny I bought. If you need it, shoot me an email and I can get it shipped out.
overnight won't be cheap for 50lb, but I can get it to you...
