tranny leak from shifter rod?
tranny leak from shifter rod?
looks like my trans is leaking from shifter rod or striking rod... w.e its called where it goes in the trans. any ideas on fixing? i was gonna remove the seal put some sealant around it and try that. not sure if this would work do you guys have any opinions?
Thanks
Thanks
I don't really remember what was exactly done to remove to seal, but i remember the entire shifter assembly was taken apart then remove the striking rod where it meets the tranny pull out the old seal but be careful oil will leak unless you drain everything (i didn't) and then just stick the new one in and reassemble everything.

not at all, i got to it im going to replace the seal and im changing gear oil anyway, but to remove the striking rod all i have to do is remove that one metal clip by pushing it through?
im just typing this from my buddies account didnt realize he was logged on lol
Yeah, drive out the two roll pins, the bracket comes off, and then you can pry out the striking rod seal.
Note that the lip on the seal is supposed to hang partway out when it's fully seated - don't hammer at it too much.

Get the proper sized punch. Sears has a set specifically for roll pins - it works really well. Although I haven't used one from that set to drive out that outer
pin. So you'll want to verify it's the right size first.
With a normal punch, just get one edge of the pin and hammer at it. Use a metal hammer for maximum impact.
