Question to Those Who Have Used Seafoam

Alright, this might be kind of a dumb question, but how would one inject some Seafoam from the can into the VG throttle body? On other vehicles I have used it with, the T/B has been exposed and easy to get to...On the VG I can't see how it's done w/o removing part of the intake manifold.

Suggestions?

Take off the Lower Intake manifold and disconnect the air tube assembly and you'll have direct access to the front of the T/B, you can use any kind of T/B related cleaner from there; as for sea-foaming.... I'd just assume running it through the brake booster vacuum hose.

Brake booster hose did absolutely nothing for me. I ran a whole bottle of seafoam through it at approximately 120k and didn't see any smoke at all through the exhaust. Maybe a tiny, tiny bit, but barely even noticable. Are you sure the brake booster hose allows it to run through the proper areas of the engine? I've seen other cars get the seafoam treatment and you would think that their cars were on fire with all the smoke pouring out of the exhaust. I was disappointed to see none.

Hmm, it sounds like you did it incorrectly. Seafoam is almost guarenteed to get the fire truck called to your house if you run it through the right way. What I did was:

1. Cut the top half of a water bottle off and used the bottom half filled with seafoam as the cup. (Make sure the cup is very clean and dry before putting anything in it)
2. Remove the vaccum hose near the brake booster.
3. Start the car.
4. Slowly dab the vaccum line in the cup of Seafoam sucking up bits of fluid each time until all of the fluid is gone. (The engine may want to sputter and die out; but my VE didn't even change RPM's at all... it was sick)
5. Turn off the engine directly after you ran out of liquid and reconnect the vaccum hose.
6. Let it sit a good 10 minutes or so.
7. Start the car and begin revving in (P)ark to "surge" the loose deposits out of your engine via exhaust pipe. Do this for an additional 5 minutes or so until no more HUGE puffs of white smoke come out during WOT.
8. Take her for a drive for a good 10 minutes to run everything out of the system.

Done...

I personally used the fuel pressure regulator vacuum port to suck the seafoam in. A lot easier to pulloff and a small plastic tube fits right over it. I also repeated it with the vaccum port in front. This way I was sure of getting both sides of the intake manifold. And yes - if you do it right you will get lots of smoke.

That's exactly what I did, and the engine was sputtering depending on how much it sucked in, but barely a sign of smoke, very very light smoke if any.

Would it be bad for the injectors if I were to run some thru the gas tank? How many people have done this / reccommend doing this?

I've run seafoam through the gas tank without any problems. But Alex is right, the injectors are suicidal, especially if you run any % of ethanol through them.

Never had any injector issues...then again, I don't believe there is any ethanol in the gas up here.

I hate you. I think all the ethanol Ive ran in the winter and in columbus is getting to my injectors. I get a popping sound randomly. I gotta ohm my injectors...

Same here (in California). Ethanol in every damn gas station. I do not mean to hijack here, but if anyone knows of any gas stations here in SoCal that do not use Ethanol, PLEASE let us know!

Thanks.

whoa, hostility in here... Just ran some seafoam through the motor, she smoked quite a bit. It was a good laugh. Some guy in a H2 pulled over on my street due to the fallout. Went for a drive and smoked out the neighborhood as well, goodtimes.

Suppose to get rid of carbon buildup in the intake manifold/cylinders.

I won't really know untill tommorow I didn't get on it too much after I put it in. Theoreticly, I'm hoping that if it got rid of some/all of the carbon I can start using my resistors more, because it has been pinging lately when I try to use them, most likely because the carbon is igniting the fuel.I need to get off my butt and put a knock sensor in. I'll see how it runs tommorow on the way to the meet and let you know the difference(s). It definatly couldn't hurt to run it through though if you're thinking about it.

Edit: FYI I ran it through my mom's Altima today as well, and it did help out with a rough idle it's been having, though it didn't cure it completly.

Well it ran really well today, I noticed after the seafoam it's running smoother. I took it down to the Golden Garden's meet. I was a little dissapointed, there was only two third gens there and that's including mine. It was fun though.

Just ran Seafoam thru my Maxima, Century, my roomate's 2.5 RS, and other buddy's Impala SS. The Subaru smoked by far the most...Then again, its owner beats it just about 100% of the time when driving it...Me and him drove the two cars down about 15 miles and back on some high-speed 2-lanes...I won't get into how fast, but pretty quick...I learned 2 things - the VG rev limiter is at 6250RPM, and it is a pretty even match for the Subi, maybe even slightly quicker and definitely has a higher top end...Lots of fun - can't wait to see the difference the Phenolic Spacers will make!

My timing light has seen it's last days so I don't know for sure. It's close to all the way retarded right now. With the resistors off it's fine 100% of the time and it's been doing okay with them on as well now that I've backed off the timing a bit. Mind you I'm at sea level here so it's quite picky about timing advance.
