rear suspension toe-in and front camber

A buddy took his 95 SE to be re-aligned Friday after we installed Eibach springs and GR2 struts/shocks. The shop says his LR wheel has .40 toe-in and the fix is a shim kit. Their price is $80/side and both sides have to be done.

I looked over the before/after spec sheet they gave him, and they seem to be right about the toe, so what's up with $160 for shims? Are we really talking about needing to replace the trailing arm bushings or something else? I'll help him do whatever is needed, but would appreciate any info to help me understand what they're trying to sell him.

He also asked for some negative camber in the front, and was given to understand it wasn't possible. Hmmm. The alignment spec sheet shows he ended up with less negative camber than he started with, so there's something I've missed there, too. The car is a DD but he hopes to do some auto-x and was looking for 1 degree or so negative camber up front. Can it be done?

Well for one the rear specs will stay as they are unless he gets the rear beam bent. You cannot add shims. There only a few ppl who can bend the beam correctly.

The front he should have been able to adjust in some neg camber. Our cars stock have -.25 camber. With a camber bolt kit he should be able to have more neg camber. I dont know how much camber camber bolts allow but I think it
.5 deg both ways not sure.
