92 Octane? Less?
92 Octane? Less?
The cheapest gas in town has "premium" that's 92 octane.
Owners manual sez "use 93".
I don't notice any difference when I use the 92...
Is it a problem, bad for the engine?
And, with prices over $3.00 a gallon for premium,
I was considering filling up with mid-grade.
Would that be a problem, bad for the engine?
TIA

What owners manual do you have? 91 is from the owners manual.

i use 93 octane but the other day i was running really low on gas and i stopped at the local gas station and the highest they had was 91 but i really needed gas bad so i got $10 worth, but thats like mixing 93 and 91 thats like 92 octane IMO, i really dont know if it troubles the engine but it sure made me nervous, i really cant tell the difference in fuel grades but i still use 93 because it's said to be the better of all, i've also known of 2 maxima's in MD, that uses lower than 93 octane and they run fine, one uses 89 (regular) and one uses 91 (plus)
Thanks Dave H.

You know, I haven't looked in the manual in ages.
I just "remembered" it as saying "use premium, 93 ocatne" and I always have.
I think it might say this both on the dash and on the inside of the gas/door/flap, but not sure.
I've got a '97 - maybe it changed year to year?
Darnitalltoheck.
I'll p is sed if I've been using premium for 10 years when I didn't have to.
I don't even want to think about how much more I'd have spent then I had to.
Pardon me while I go off in the corner and sob quitely...

Owners manual recommends at least 91. Hasn't changed from 95-07

These threads come up once a month.
93 is great. You will avoid problems if you stick with this.
91 is the minimum recommended octane rating. Your car will run just fine on this.
You can run 89 for some time without terrible impacts on your internals, provided that you don't use crappy gas. My wife ran 89 on her 00 DE-K for 2 years (35,000 miles) without any problems and got MPG that was identical to that on 93.
If you run 87, you will most likely notice diminished performance.
I locked the thread because this is covered in the stickys and I am tired of the subject coming up every few weeks.
