To all GXE fans,

According to edmunds.com, Nissan is cutting maxima production to 80,000 for 2002 vs 130,000 for 2001. Also, the gxe lineup will only account for 5% of the production, or 4000 cars.

This all makes sense as the Maxima moves into the luxury, full size (bloated pig) category.e

This is becuase of the new Altima. A fully loaded Altima will cost near a GXE maxima so Nissan thinks who ever wants to go on a maxima will go like on an SE or GLE and if he wants a GXE he'll go on a fully loaded(V6) Altima.

I know the new altima is a big factor as well as the 2003 maxima, but a decked out 2002 Altima (Auto) will cost about $26,000, and if it is as popular as it appears it will be, there won't be any discounts. However, the 2001 GXE (Auto) sells for about $21,492, If the 2002 pricing is close to this, you can get a faster car, on paper anyways, for less money. They both weight about 3240lbs, but the Max has 20 ponies under the hood.

I'm not sold on the Altima's looks yet. I will need to see it on the road. I think the rear end looks like a cross between a 300M and a monte carlo.

The interior does look a little cheap. It's not very classy, tried to make it look sporty, but over did it.

don't like Altima's interior too...

especially the lower center console, don't like something empty down there...
Why can't they design it just like max's? I love the continuous and water fall design...but I guess that's just my taste (that's the reason why I too don't like Accord or any cars that has similar center console design).
