Opinions on O2 Sensor Idea
Opinions on O2 Sensor Idea
So I bought an O2 sensor that has somewhat stripped threads on it. There's really no good way of repairing the threads, either. So I thought about O2 simulators, but realized they aren't going to work unless I actually put the new O2 sim in. If I can't put it in, they do me no good, and they won't work with a dead O2 sensor, either.
Well, in the process of looking at sims, I saw there's a "mechanical" fix for them, as shown in this ebay auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/O2-Se...QQcmdZViewItem
After seeing this, I got an idea. These "mechanical" sims are cheap and expendable, right? They've also got a good thread I can work with. If I take this good, working O2 sensor I have with stripped threads and am able to get it into this sim, I can attach it to the bung that way.
So, if the sensor threads into the simulator, great. If not, I figure there's got to be something I can use to attach it (JB weld maybe?). I figure ruining it or the simulator is no big deal since both were extremely cheap, and if I can't thread the sensor into the sim it's not going to thread into the bung either.
Opinions? What might I use to secure the O2 sensor into the sim if it doesn't thread in on it's own without leaks? Will JB weld work or won't it stand up to the heat?
I need rid of the code/CEL to pass inspection next month so opinions are needed here.

Depending on what you paid for the used one you might be better off buying a new one for $60 and installing it. The adapter in the ebay listing still leaves you with the problem of trying to figure out a way to attached the used sensor to it. Will the adapter even work with a stock exhaust flow or does it only work with a modified exhaust? There might also be a clearance issue by adding the extra length to the sensor.
