So my Power steering COOLER is leaking *pics* (edited)

Noticed this a while a go actually but havent got around to it untill now.

what runs in this hose? (near the PS and Coolant resevoir's) nothing is leaking but the clamp is missing the screw that tightens it and the hose seems to be sitting a bit high on the metal connector line.

what to do ? can just take the hose off and put it back on and re-tighten it ? or do i need to replace it and if s then who knows the size od this hose and ehat kind is it?
any help is appreciated

power steering line but its the PS cooler line that runs to the front no idea why its not connected to resovoir like its supposed to maybe it had a leak before and someone sold it to you like that but it needs to be incorporated to the resovoir otherwise later on youll have a heat related PS pump failure

So like that just confused the hell out of me. Like so did they take the hose on the ps reservoir and connect to the other line on the ps reservoir? and then run hose to hose on the cooler?

Here what it should look like. You might want to get that fixed ASAP. Dont wanna overheat the PS pump.

That I couldnt say why they would do it unless the lower hose has a leak in it but as far as reconnecting it how it suppose to be you will just have to disconnect the hose and let the fluid run out as there is no way to drain the fluid fully.

You can get a turkey baster and pump most of it out until you get to the baffle that in the ps reservoir and then you can disconnect the hose to let the rest out if you dont wanna make such a large mess.

Here a writeup you can follow to drain out most of the fluid.

Thank got i had the turkey baster from replacing the PS fluid like 4 months ago

i drained the resevoiur with baster, disconected the hoses, drained the remainder of the resevoir, then connected the hoses as per ur PIC

now i refilled the resevoiur and gona let the car run and i think since the COOLER lines are emty i need to run it and monitor it, as the fluid decreases i add more atf

THANK god i had like half a jug left of ATF from befiore

Everything went well, 20 minutes and its all back to normal, this is crazy, i HOPE the hose was leaking and someone too off the ***** resevoir and replaced the hoses and reconnected them wrong. otherwise this is weird why someone would disconnect the cooler, it does not seem to be leaking ill drive around and see what happens

here are some pics, this BTW could be a write up on how to change the PS fluid by removing the resevoir, it really is THAT easy

ONE thing i noticed is that when i refilled the resevoir some fluid did go down into the tube and i filled some more ( to the cold MAX line) but not as much as i would have thought, does this mean there was some old ATF in the cooler present ? i think so because its impossible to drain it otherwise

also i am missing one of the screws on the lower hose clam, i spread it apart with pliers and put a zip tie on it really tight, tried with my hand and it did not move, should i still get the screw? or is it fine if its not leaking ?

Just get a hose clamp from a local auto store.

Well i figured out why someone would disconnect the PS cooler from the rest of the system after performing some used car forensics.

The PS fluid (ATF) is leaking from the rubber hose thats connected to the stainless steel line. its where the cooler sits right in front of the rad on the passenger side, its hard to tell if its the upper or the lower hose is leaking but it looks like the bottom one.

Its leaking right where the hose clamp sits on the hose so i think i need a new hose obviously but its weird howe its leaking from the part where its connected...any hose of the same diameter is fine ? even if it is a hose, i really dont wanna waste more ATF by taking off the hoses just to inspect them, i wanna just replace them while they are off anyways and then refill the PS fluid

any help is welcome!

I think i never noticed any difference in steering cause i got the car in october and its been the whole winter so the PS never got that hot, but maybe i am wrong, is it really necessary to have the cooler connected ? i mean i know nissan created it for a reason, but it has worked fine so far without it.

The FSM specifically states that if fluid leakage at connectors is noticed (just how mine is leaking) loosen flare nut and the re-tighten. Do not over tighten connector as this can damage the O-ring, washer, and connector. Check the rack bolts for accumulation of PS fluid.

what o-ring and washer is the fsm talking about ? thats what ill try first tomorro morning

well problem fixed, this helped a lot

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....58751&t=449764

basically the hose got cooked on to the stainless tube and i had to reposition the clamp. cut up my hands pretty good but now no leaks and i got the cooler back

Curious: does everyone (95 - 99 Se/Gle/Gxe) have these PS fluid coolers ?
