CE Clear/Black Retro
CE Clear/Black Retro
Here are a few pics of my retro. i used my old CE clear/black headlights, toyota celica (00 GTS) projectors, 8000k HID kit. since i can't post pics, click here to see.
Why would you waste your time on Halogen projectors?
For the amount of work done you should have just done a real HID projector retro and be done with it.
How is the cutoff and output with those HID's in the halogen projectors?
I saw some pics with of a setup similiar to yours with HIDS in halogen projectors and the output looked pretty bad. Im just curious if it was just his type of projectors that did it, they were in a 2001 civic.

idk wut it is either... i just dotn like the all black unless its on a blacked out car... but nice work.. shrouds FTW!
thanks for the input guys. i'm open to the constructive criticism. now here are some explanations.
shrouds:
if you look at this, i think think what i did is very acceptable. page 2 of the pics shows how the projs were all silver. i went all black whith the white trim. looks good enough to me.
halogen vs HID projs:
the celica lights belonged to a friend of mine = quick and easy. i too have heard that halogen projs are worse than HID, i beg to differ. as soon as i get them properly aimed, i will post pics of the outstanding cut off. one last thing on this, if you notice almost all HID projs look blue, then purple, then whatever colors, and finally white when you are right up on them; i don't like that. mine always look blue-white.
why 8000K?!? :
like i just said, i like the blue-white look/color. it provides a brilliant color contrast compared to lower kelvins. and IMHO, anyone who says it causes more fatigue on the eyes is out of their mind. i know halogens are not HIDs, but everytime i drive my wife's civic, i can't see a thing.
so, once again, thanks for the input. i will get some cut off pics up soon.

Shrouds are fine, bezels would complete the look. I’ve been noticing that 4th gen maxima owners are notorious on not including this in a retrofit. No clue why, you did all the hard work, its not that much more to make it look pretty.
Example: R34 headlights with S2000 projectors. S2000 are sealed, no need for a bezel, but once added it has a much more aesthetically pleasing look.

I see what your saying about the color, but 8000K is pretty dim compared to a good 6000K. And you will still have color.

I helped jltibbs with the retro. We decided not to go with bezels because it looks so much better without them. The bezels look hidious IMHO especially if you are blacking out the headlights. The pics that he showed are nothing compared to how they really look. They look freaking amazing. They look better than mine. I have the A6 Allroad projectors. I have nasty dingy headlamp glass though.
As far as the output goes, it's alot better than stock. I know that they are halogen projectors, but they look pretty good. They are not as good as a HID projector, but they are close. I don't agree with the 8K, but they do look pretty good. I don't like the blue-blue color. I run a 6K, but with my projectors a get a white-blue color. It's also purple, yellow, and blue depending on where you are in relation to the car.
Overall, I think jltibbs setup is awesome. If we could only get them aimed then we would be set. But i still have the satisfaction of know ing that I was the first in Middle TN to have the retrofit. LOL.

Maybe, but they dont show how he actually mounted them, nor him aiming them before he sealed them. That may be why he is having a hard time aiming the housings, because the projectors themselves are a bit off inside the housings.

as far as the shroud/bezel is concerned, i dont have R34's. thus, the whole inside of the light would need a bezel, not one little spot. then it would look ghey.

Why would the inside of the whole light need a bezel? THe bezels just go around the actual projector itself, and shrouds go around the outer edge of the lense to hide the projector bulb base and its mounting area.

Congrats on your retrofit, I have a set of celica projectors, with hids in them the cut off is pretty basic, I haven't figured out how to color mod them or else they will be okay for hid, nothing to write home about. The shield is fixed like tsx and s2000 but there is no where you can just add some washers to it to increase the shield distance from the lens. I did have to put foil tape over the squirrel finder holes though to make the cutoff look decent. So if you check your cutoff and it looks crazy, just take the bulbs out and put the pieces of tape on a screwdriver or something to cover the holes without having to remove the projectors all the way.
