Why I like my 3rd Gen

I just recently aquired my 3rd- 3rd Gen ata great price and this is the first one that I have kept and really drove around. The others i just bought to turn around a make a profit. But after driving this 17 year old car I find that it doesn't seem like it is 17 years old. Here are the things I like and feel free to chime in on something about your ride too.

1. VG30E has plenty of power
2. Original Bose system still rocks and makes all the mirrors shake
3. Digital Touch entry
4. Curb lights or whatever they are when you use yuor blinker at night.
5. All amenities, power seats, mirrors, locks, cruise control, sunroof.

1. 160hp is plenty of power for a 3100lb car?
2. If it hasn't failed yet
3. if you like the "glass" trans that goes with it
4. yup they be cool
5. power seats too much weight, heated mirrors and the rest

Now if only they were available AWD...

Yeah, a few years ago I upgraded from a 96 accord to a 93 GXE. I had thought Hondas were good, but honestly, there is no comparison.

I recently got a 93 SE and sold the GXE (for more than I bought it for).

Honestly, if I can still find them 30 years from now, I will drive a 3rd Gen SE the rest of my life.

i still love my 92 gxe.

200k and a junk tranny. still kicking ***. EVERYTHING still works.

burns a quart of oil, but thats to be expected.

getting a 350z, though. still keeping my maxi for snow days.

cant see buying a new maxima with cvt or dealing with all of the o2 and maf sensor issues not under warranty. sadly, our maximas are losing equity.

bose system outrocks any stock system except for the new bose systems with massive power output...and its 15 years old.

p.s. 160 hp/180 lbs/ft is still enough for me, even at 3620 lbs. good ole sturdy craftsmanship.

Ya....my 91 SE VG.....256,000 miles and oil level does not move between oil changes. Oil comes out relatively clean at oil changes too.....I'm always bragging about that.

Eesh, 3620 lbs? Mine weighed in at 3120 with a full tank of gas, spare tire, full interior, the works

Ive had 3 max's. 1 was a total pos, 217K 5speed donor for my last max.

I love my max because its a great highway cruiser. Triple digits aren't a problem. Nice and smooth and plenty of room. Good highway mpg too.

I think many people on this forum forget how old their vehicles are. Pssin and moaning about the Bose quitting or a tranny that acts up. Remember most of the vehicles are getting near to 20 years old! I'd rather have an old nissan acting up than a 2 year old Chrysler or Ford that does the same thing.

I agree with gapboi210 on his reasons to love the old Max. Throw in Auto Climate control and it easily seats 5...but the best reason to love the old car is no car payment!

That's about the only reason I still have mine.

That, and I can still get close to 30 mpg. I have actually had to drive it lately. I put on over 1k miles so far this year.

It's all good until my VTCs blow up

Yes, I do have a 4th gen and it is a great car too, just not as fast. But I also still own a 3rd gen.
Just because a man owns an apple tree doesn't mean he can't admire peaches.

My VG has 240,800 miles and is still pulling hard to red line and doesn't burn any oil although it drips some where the engine and trans mate up.

But overall great luxurious car !

(Does anyone else have a rusty sunroof ?)

I like this car mostly because of the blood and sweat I've put into it so there is a personnal connection.

If I go for a month without fixing something, my affection towards it will be more genuine.

Issues on the to-do pile for the next few weekends:
front exhaust studs
starter is acting strange (just replaced a few months ago)
there is some engine noise I cant identify
some injector or coil is acting up, have to find out which
rear VTC starting to tick
rear window defroster needs repair
sunroof is rusting

just done in the last two months:
power steering pump
new front suspension
front VTC

I would like this 3rd gen a lot more if it wasnt such a lemon

yeah i guess you did get a lemon. mine just needs new struts and brakes and the PS leak fixed, and new LCA bushings and LH tierod boot and balljoint.

my brother's car, a 3rd gen Camry (93 to be exact) has lost both front window regulators, a distro coil, a top coolant hose, a (literally) exploded battery, a brake line, a transmission, 2 motor mounts, a PS leak, a rear wheel bearing, and worn struts at less than 140k.. he paid $2500 so far in repairs and the bearing and struts and PS leak have not yet been fixed.

its a great all around car and i know it inside and out so im able to fix almost anything that can go wrong. I rebult the entire motor back in 04 so im up to about 40k miles now on a 177k body and to this day i dont even worry about putting miles on it. First car, Ive had it since i was in high school so its been through uncountable happenings.

Plus I hate most modern day passenger car designs and quality, and the VE has decent enough power to hang in there with most newer cars (and if not well thats where my camaro comes in) I even crashed it into a fence pole 2 winters ago and i repaired the body damage myself, and all doors still shut nice and clean no rattles, creaks, nothing, drives/looks perfect. Even though the repairs aggrivate me, the quality of the car for its age serves to redeem itself

Man... You had better continue maintaining the sh*t out of that car, I wanna see it break the record of 400+ on the original engine, and maybe even approach half a mil. And that's a VE too, correct? Man, you would be my hero if you broke 400k. Just don't get into any accidents like the last record holder did.

I'm so sick of people telling me that I'm out of my mind for buying cars with mileage in the 90k range. As if the car is about to see its last stretch of pavement on its next trip. Also sick of people questioning me for buying a 1997 car (BMW). They're like OMG 10 years old??? Are you crazy???

Then when I show them all of the features that my 10 year old car has that their 2007 Honda Civic doesn't, they shut up. But they still think they're cool because they have a god damn giant blue digital speedometer that's capable of restoring site to Ray Charles himself!

i hate current-gen Civics. with a passion. scariest car i ever drove. and my sister has that as her DD...

honestly if it's got 150k miles that doesn't even phase me.. my Maxima has tought me that on certain cars, miles aren't so scary.

yeah the blazer dash was actually alright...only thing is mine went out twice in the time i had it and i had to replace it which would have been expensive if i didnt know a guy who had two old digi dash blazers in a parts yard. i really like the non digital dash in my maxima though

also the fact that it looks sleeker than the new style civic and the suzuki that i park by at school, and it gets respected by all the tuners and stuff at school even though it looks like a family sedan :\

...i guess they know about the VE

I bought the blazer with a bad cluster, cost me $195 to get it fixed (******* told me it was only gonna be $165) never replaced again. Bravada still has a full functional one.
I typically prefer an analog dash, but the S-series is an exception to that rule.
ever seen an analog dash in an s-series?
