At the top of me shifter in my auto 03 maxima It a hole that says shift lock what is this. Sorry if it a dumb ?

Doesn't this just help people steal your car.. I figure the parkshift lock is some protection against someone screwdriving ignitiion; Or does that unlock shiftlock

 

I believe that it allows you to shift the car out of park when the battery is dead or removed. I believe you still need to have the key in the ignition like normal.

 

I think it lets you allow to shift the gears when the car is not started.

 

It allows you to shift to any gear without the car in on or the key in the ignition. Basically it helps people to steal your car and tow it.
