How to change brake shoes?

Anyone know if chaging the shoes is a DoItYourself project? Or should it be brought to a place. Any special tools involved? How long should it take?

To change the rear brakes isnt hard, its just a PITA to do it. Personally if you've never seen it done then I'd suggest to not attempt unless being supervised/ guided through by a professional or someone who knows how to change em.

Although the rear brakes dont do as much work as the front ones, its still something you dont wanna mess with. After going though the instructions previously posted, and if you feel capable of doing it yourself then go ahead. Another suggestion is to try removing the brake shoes, hardware kit, and the wheel cylinder at a junk yard and put it back together. Its just what I'd do to be safe

Tip: Beware of the of the the bleeder nut on the wheel cylinder. If it's old and you're bleeding it, you should heat it up for it doesnt break.

i have a simple question, when i got my 93 maxima a while back, the e-brake didnt work. it still doesnt. i dont know if its the cable or if i need to change the shoes. the reason i dont know if its the cable or shoes is, i heard that when you pull the e-brake, it should only click 8-9 times, when i pull mine, it clicks 20 times. i think its the shoes because before it even clicks the first time, the brake light comes on. does anyone know which one it is?

Your cable isn't installed right in the drum most likely...

idk, ill try something, i mean i pull the brake all the way to the top of the center console, put it in neutral, and it will roll down my drive way, and my drive way is at a less than 15 degree slope.

You have the following:
1) Cable broken (most likely)
2) Shoes are toast or connection at shoe messed up (possibly)
3) Cable needs serious adjustment (least likely)
Pop off a drum and check the pads and cable connection. If pads are good and brake cable secure then, pop off the plastic piece under your parking brake handle and see if the cable is still connected. If so, adjust it (10mm I think), and see if it makes a difference.
My cable broke earlier this year and it was a pain to replace it, but it is absolutely necessary to have a functioning parking brake.
Good luck.
